Lepton Highlanders Ladies 5 v 1 Bradford Park Avenue Ladies
The Avenue Ladies suffered an unfortunate defeat this week at nearest League rivals Lepton Highlanders, but where as at a glance the score may reflect a poor performance it tells quite the false tale.
Early in the game and whilst riding quite alot of pressure, Avenue conceeded to give the home side a lead, but to be fair this was the most sustained pressure Aveune faced for the majority of the afternoon. The Ladies took the early set back on the chin, settled down and started to play their own game, putting Lepton firmly into their own half for the majority of the first half. Annie Roberts worked tirelessly down the mountain that was her wing, whilst Dani WIlliams created chances from the centre of the park.
At half time the score was 1-0 to Lepton.
As the second half began the same form was shown, and eventually the pressure paid off as Avenues Jill Middleton sloted home to level the scores. Avenue continued to look the stronger and retain possession but couldn't quite produce the killer touch in the final third. Then the problems began! Laura Fagan went down with an injury after an hour, and with no subs remaining tried to continue, however moments later she conceeded a Penalty which was put away. It was clear she wasn't fit to continue and Avenue would have to play on with ten players. Whilst re-adjusting themselves the Ladies where caught again giving Lepton a 3-1 advantage, and to make matters worse in the build up Leanne Benjamin was now also carrying a knock, effectivly reducing Avenue to 9! Althoguh continuing to fight bravely and still creating breaks forward the Ladies where getting caught on the counter repeatedly and inevitably against such a strong opposition the result showed this, as by full time the score was 5-1.
Lepton are a very good team, they are organised, strong, can pass and know their way to goal, however even under such circumstances and with gaps in the line up Avenue matched, and for the best part of the game bettered their hosts. Even though the result creates extra work for the Ladies in their bid for promotion their performance and attitude on the day was worth more than any three points as they once again showed when they play well they can equal any team in this league even with 9 players on the field! It is hoped that this same mentality is taken into next weeks game away at Regional Premier outfit Osset Albion in the County Cup.

Hebden Royd Ladies 0 v 9 Bradford Park Avenue Ladies
Avenue Ladies came back to form with a bang as they travelled to League strugglers Hebden Royd United. A new look formation allowed several players to express themselves alot more freely, whilst supporting lone striker Christina Berry upfront.
It took just 20 minutes for in form midfield sensation Sarah Huby to get the Ladies off the mark with a belting finish, nine minutes later scorer turned provider as Huby sent Christina through to solt away calmly. Berry doubled her tally some ten minutes later, before Sarah Huby completed a very symetrical scoresheet for the first half by getting a second for herself, with another lovely finish, Danielle Williams with the assist.
As the second half got underway some more tidy passing and controlled defending saw Avenue continue to dominate, by the 50th minute Captain Sarah Huby stole the matchball by completing her hattrick. Christina, not to be outdone, joined the party and completed her own hattrick some 11 minutes later. Avenue where now running the show with swift, flowing moves and solid, calculated defending, the more Hebden pushed the greater the resistance. After 75 minutes Laura Wolfenden got on the scoresheet, and Christina forgot where the goals were blazing two sitters over the bar!!
As the game entered the final ten minutes it was time for Annie Roberts to launch an attack, Laura Fagan sent her through and Roberts sent it home. As the game came to a close there was just time for Mel Houldsworth to bang a free kick into the mix, Laura Wolfenden flicked it on and Annie Roberts grabbed a brace as she sent it home.
A superb performance by the Ladies showing that they have the ability to pick themselves up, dust themselves down and punish sides after dis-appointment. Sections of the game showed form that is good enough to match and better any team within the League, and as recent results have humbled the squad they have also created a determination to prove just how good this Avenue side is. A well deserved clean sheet, for the first time in the League this season, with some tireless play from Tessa Shaw and Laura Fagen at the back. Excellent support play by wingers Benamin and Roberts, creativity and skill from Danielle Williams through the middle and relentless work from Chamberlin, Huby, Wolfenden and Berry in the final third gave a truly deserved result.
A well earned rest now before the journey to nearest League rivals Lepton Highlanders in what could prove to be a cracking game.
