Match Report
Great Eastern (H)
Albert Tavern were on Mill Lane for the 3rd week on the trot facing a tough fixture against Great Eastern. With players missing Albert were forced to re shuffle, but this seemed to strengthen the team. Great Eastern never really got started and this allowed Albert to take control of the half and push Eastern back. Albert were playing some good football and stretching Eastern all over. With 10 mins gone Albert were rewarded for their good play and took the lead thanks to a great low drive from the returning Ilir Lama that went in off the post. Albert were working hard and Eastern were trying to play football too keeping the Albert defence on their toes. 25 mins in and some great work for Ilir saw him turn and loft the ball over the Eastern keeper for his and Albert’s 2nd of the game. Both teams were playing some good football but the goal of the game came in the dying mins of the 1st half when centre back Tom Farley seeing the keeper of his line struck a 65 yard (Alonso like strike) lob in and under the bar to see Albert go in with a comfortable lead.
Half Time: Albert Tavern 3 Great Eastern 0
Second half saw Albert slow to start and Eastern knowing they had to start playing or face defeat were pushing them back. Some dodgy defending from Albert saw Eastern have a number of chances but thankfully for the Albert they didn’t bring their shooting boots and any shots that were on target were easily saved by Steve in goal. Albert started to wake up a bit and created chances of their own and a combination of poor finishing and some good saves from the Eastern keeper kept the score down. Injuries to key Albert players forced them into changes and this seemed to affect the shape of the team as they stepped off and allowed Eastern back into the game. Eastern grabbed a late consolation when a corner wasn’t cleared and a looping header just beat Steve’s out stretched hand and drop in for the last goal of the game.
Full Time: Albert Tavern 3 Great Eastern 1
A potentially tricky game was made easy by a solid team performance by all Albert players. Special mention to Tom Farley for a great goal, but joint man of match this week as it was hard to choose between Ilir Lama for getting back to his best with some great strikes and good solid running and Centre mid Chris Dormer for his solid challenges and adding valuable support to the defence.
