Awaiting fixture details

Small pitch, small goals the game got bogged down into a midfield battle with both teams defending in numbers, there was very little space to create anything clear-cut. Flowing football was at a minimum. The Lions went behind when a long distance cross-shot drifted into the one area that Jamie could not cover. Moments later the Lions conceded a second goal from a well taken corner and a bullet near post header that ripped into the net. The Lions fought back and their energy levels and urgency went up a notch or two, eventually a loose clearance was played into Connor Hayhow who hit a first time powerful shot from distance into the top corner.
Second Half.
Loads of possession, the game was predominantly played in the Ashridge half, but no goals. Ashridge defended in numbers, packed their penalty area and the more the game went on the Lions frustration increased as they couldn't find the killer pass to unleash the forwards. Billy was very unlucky not to score when his volley smashed against the bar, the rebound being hacked to safety. Joe Cole nearly made something of nothing with a near-post flick header that skimmed the top of the bar, in a normal sized goal it would have gone in ! Then the most contentious decision of the day, Joe Cole running across the area away from goal was fouled on the line.... very close call but no penalty. The game then drifted away, time ran out and Ashridge justifiably celebrated the victory that their resolute defending deserved.

This eagerly awaited top of the table clash did not disappoint. An excellent match played in a very good spirit by both teams. Conditions were overcast, and the pitch was in good condition – overnight rain left a nice surface for good football.
First Half
Binfield started strongly and were soon ahead. Max Uttley saw his shot well saved, and Joe Cole was on hand to knock into the net. 1-0 after 4 minutes.
Binfield continue with some good passing movements, Guy Rawsthorne playing well, and tackling strongly. Dan Muino was working hard at the back to keep Aldershot out.
Aldershot started to come into the game with some good passing. On 21 minutes a long shot went just over Jamie Rogers – 1-1. On 24 minutes, Josh Valentin and Billy Rogers linked up well.
On 26 minutes Brandon, who had put over a couple of good crosses, went off with an injury – here’s to a quick recovery.
Binfield came back into the game. Michael Harrison went down the wing, and Joe Cole had a shot well saved. From the corner, Michael Harrison nearly scored with a good flick/shot.
Just on half time, Connor Hayhow won a strong tackle, and the ball went to Josh Valentin. He hit a great shot from the edge of the box which the keeper had no chance with. 2-1 to Binfield at half time and all to play for.
Second Half
Binfield started the second half well. Connor Hayhow worked hard early on and Josh Valentine had another long shot, which the keeper saved.
Aldershot applied some pressure – but Jamie Rogers was equal to everything. A couple of fantastic saves maintained the lead – he was really there when we needed him.
Binfield hit back and had a good spell of pressure as they went looking for the goal that would seal the victory.
Sure enough, it came. A through ball was taken by Josh Valentin who crossed for Connor Hayhow to score from close range – 3-1. Binfield continued to attack and had a couple of half chances as they finished strongly. The last great move saw Billy Rogers make a pin point pass for Connor Hayhow, whose first touch was excellent – and his instant shot went just over
An excellent match. Both teams tried to play football. Jamie Rogers made saves at key moments, and Binfield took their chances well. The Binfield defence stood strong when Aldershot pushed on. Congratulations to all 14 players. Work rate, effort and commitment were excellent. Great work by the management team after last week’s disappointment.
