With the Corner Pins unbeaten form, and a previous 10 - 1 win over the Railway, we were confident but not overly so going in to the game.
We were aware that they had made some significant changes to their team since the win and had lost only one game, so our heads were on it.
The pitch however was to become a true 12th man in this game, as it could only be described as atrocious!!
The game began well enough, the Pin perhaps not putting themselves about the game as well as we could have done, with the exception of Dave Szlamp who gave a stirring performance in midfiled and went into everything as if his life depended on it.
The Pin were under the cosh for most of the half, but had their own chances as well, the most notable being a good link up between G and Jermaine only for him to swing a great cross across goal for Steve E to volley narrowly wide, excellent effort and deserved a goal.
The half ended and we knew we were in for a tough game, the pitch even boggier than before had cut up and with the ball sticking in places as well as the wind swirling around the game was bound to become more difficult as it wore on.
75 mins in and the game took a dramatic turn, with the ball out of play (boats you knew it was there ball!!) the opposition quickly took a throw in with our men out of position, one on one and not technically last man, Clynt was rounded and unfortunately got more of the man than the ball, (although i still felt it was 50/50 from where i was)
Kirby our hero as ref fro the day, had only one option but to give a penalty, and the Railways striker stepped up to take the shot....
Rich who so far i havent seen not save a penalty came up with the goods again, and teh Pin were let off... for a few brief minutes.
The Railway pressed forward and a wild shot was struck which bobbled along teh ground - a routine save for Rich normally, however the '12th man' reared its ugly head and a bobble took the ball up Richards arm and into the back of the net, with nothing he could do.
The Pin pressed and their efforts were rewarded with Colin who had a fairly quiet game up until this point driving a placed shot passed the keeper.
A draw wold have been fair, however the Railway sneaked the ball through on the break and to be fair to their striker he took the ball well, placing the ball beyond the reach of Rich 2 - 1.
First defeat of the season and it was a bitter pill to swallow. We know how this feels now and i dont want to feel like it again!!
