Hessle Rangers 1 Goole Town Vikings Ladies 6
Double winners Goole finished the league off in style with a convincing win and some great goals to boot on a blustery day in West Hull.
In a strong cross wind Goole were slow to get into their stride and the early exchanges were very scrappy. Goole opened the scoring when a lovely through ball from Elley Mcglynn set Abbie Wilkinson away who scored with a great left foot shot. On the half hour mark Town went further ahead when a cross from the right was touched on by Megan Coates and Claire Lewis was there to finish with a looping shot over the keeper..
The Vikings played more like themselves in the second half and totally dominated although credit goes to Rangers who were still competing well and it was the home side that pulled a goal back with a header from a corner. This made Town raise their game and three minutes later got their two goal lead back with a tremendous free kick from Sophie Hall that hit the top corner. With twenty minutes remaining the game was made safe with a brilliant individual goal from Megan Coates who ran over half the length of the field before slotting it past the keeper. Hall who was outstanding all game got her second after a good run from Coates found her in the box and a lovely first time shot gave the keeper no chance. With ten minutes remaining Becky Shipp got on the act with another thunderous strike from 30 yards to finish the league on a high for Town.
Well done to everyone concerned it what has been an amazing season for the team and must soon prepare for a better level of football in the North East Regional League next season.

EAST RIDING WOMENS LEAGUE CUP FINAL
Goole Town Vikings Ladies 1 AFC Preston Utd 0
(After extra time)
Town travelled to Bridlington F.C. (Queensgate) having just won the League Title and were hoping to complete a famous double in the cup and with the game looking like going to penalties Megan Coates popped up to seal a famous victory.
Before kick off Nisa Wakefield was presented with the League Champions Trophy but all eyes had to be focused on the Cup Final about to be played with AFC Preston seeking revenge. On a large hard playing surface it was the side that finished runners up in the league AFC Preston who settled the better and for the first 30 minutes had much of the ball without really creating any clear cut chances. A number of corners had to be defended well and the nearest Preston came was with a goal bound shot that was bravely headed away by the outstanding Elley Mcglynn. Goole had their moments and a good ball from Sophie Hall set Abbie Wilkinson away but the shot was saved by the keeper.
Roles was reversed for the second half with Town well on top but both defences were in commanding form and as the half wore on it was difficult to see where a goal was coming from. The nearest Goole came was with ten minutes remaining when Wilkinson hit a rasping drive that just grazed the crossbar.
It was no surprise to see the referee blow for extra time and the dreaded penalties looked on the cards although Town did look the stronger and fitter side now and if any team was going to win it looked like Goole. In the second period of extra time and with time running out Wilkinson laid a ball into the box for Coates who managed to win the ball off two defenders and looked to have been fouled but the ref played a great advantage and she scored from a difficult angle to send the girls wild. The Vikings saw the game out well with the Hull side looking completely deflated.
It completes probably Town’s most memorable season to date and was capped off with Abbie Wilkinson being awarded a trophy for top scorer in the East Riding League at the presentation at the end.

East Riding Women’s League Cup Semi-Final
Goole Town Vikings Ladies 3 Hessle Rangers 1
Town’s fine week continued with progression to the League Cup Final in a hard fought contest against battling Rangers at the Hull University.
Right from the start it was obvious Goole were in for tough game with Hessle closing down the League Champions at every opportunity and it was Rangers that nearly took the lead when a well struck shot was tipped onto the crossbar by Louise Ramsden It was then Goole’s turn to hit the woodwork in an end to end opening 20 minutes. On the half hour mark the deadlock was broken when Sophie hall laid the ball off to Abbie Wilkinson in the box who made no mistake. Rangers came back well and from a corner were level although the player on the line that headed home looked in an off-side position. Only 3 minutes later it was Lucy Peet on the right who was impressive throughout that provided Wilkinson with her second. Just before the break it was nearly all square once more but for the post saving the day for Goole.
The Second half was a much more disciplined effort by Town limiting Hessle to much fewer opportunities and ten minutes in got further ahead when a well floated free-kick from Hall found Nisa Wakefield at the far post to head home. Goole had to fight hard right to the end but although not at their best did enough to give them a chance of the League and Cup double.
Goole now face League Runners Up AFC Preston Utd at Bridlington Town’s ground (Queensgate) on the 12th May 7.30pm Ko a team they recently played in a League Decider and sure will be another mouth watering clash.
