Poor 30 minutes cost Athletic the game

Greyhound Athletic had an early exit from the Derbyshire Fa Junior Cup as they lost 4-2 to Rainbow International. Kickoff was put back to 11 because the opponents play sunday afternoons and yet Athletic still looked tired for their extra 1/2 in bed. Rainbow International soon took the lead after winning the toss and choosing to kick down hill. The visitors played it down the left wing to to knock it acorss the box for a tap in past "Big Nev" Barker. Their second again came from the left, but was a harder chance to finish, which the striker took well, two more goals came quickly and it looked as if the Atheltic players had given up. With 10 minutes to go before half time, Tommy Carter put the visiting team under pressure and was able to capatalise from the mistake that came from it, banging one home from close range. After that it was the away teams head that went down and Athletic were on top.

In the second half Athletic came out strong and were playing the away team off the park. The visitors couldn't cope with the fitness, movement and awareness of Joe Carter who was everywhere. They had a couple of chances but Mark "Big Nev" Barker, stood big and saved two one on ones to deny the Visitors another goal. Athletic continued to push on and Luke Alldred looked clean through on goal to score only to be fouled by the chasing defender. Up stepped Tim Bradley to convert the kick, but it just wasn't his day as he saw his penalty miss.

Rob Dawes came on to for Luke Alldred who had been having a quiet game and Dawesy immediatley took control of the midfield causing probems for his opponents. With 20 minutes to go Rob Bowmer gave way for Ross Allsopp who made an impact straight away crossing the ball into the box for Craig "Gimp" Billyeald to head past a flandering keeper. After that Athletic looked like getting more, Tom Carter blazed over the bar from close range after another slick move.

Mark Barker made yet two more great saves as Athletic were caught on the break with a long balls, the visitors could do anything else! However the final whistle came to soon for Athletic who by now were bossing the game doing all but scoring.

Mark Barker was named Man of the Match, with Joe Carter coming a close second by the away team manager.  If we play every game like we did the second half we will be promoted by January.
