Reserve Section Knock-Out Competition Qualifier Draw

We have decided to organise an additional competition in our Reserve Section this year to provide more football for our reserve teams.

The competition is set-up along the lines of the European Championship with teams drawn in four divisions which will play on a league basis with the top two sides in each division going into the knock-out stage.

The divisional matches will consist of one game between each side with home and away drawn at random. The knock-out stage will consist of four quarter final matches leading ontosemi-final and final matches to decide the cup. Each side willplay a minimum of five matches and fixtures will commence in October.

The Chairman's Cup is an occasional competition but the results are recorded in the handbook and a trophy is awarded to the winning finalists with medals going to all the players and management of the two teams contesting the final.

The draw is for the whole Reserve Section and it will be interesting to see how the teams from the lower division handle the opportunity to take on first division opposition. We wish all the competing teams every success.

PS There is a small problem with the title formatting causing the Chairman's Cup title to be mixed up with the Premier division name. This will be fixed early next week. Until then, apologies for any confusion this may cause

FIXTURES SEASON 2009/10

Dave Smith, settling into the fixtures secretary's chair, has put his first batch of fixtures up on our website. League and the Cups are both there and some promising match ups have already come to light, if last season's form is anything to go by.

Dave has decided to set the dates for the first round of our cups a little later in the season than was previously the custom. This is in response to requests from many clubs to give teams time to settle down before asking them to begin the knock-out competitions. We have lost Knebworth Reserves to a post AGM withdrawal and the committee is conscious that, with a combined total of 24 teams, the Reserve Section season could be relatively short. To address this we will be running an additional cup competition and further details are announced in the article at the top of the page.

As ever, there will be evening matches during August and early September and teams are asked to make sure they complete these fixtures as arranged. We have 17 teams in Senior Divison I this year - looking to go to 18 next season - and it is important that we hit the ground running and get some early season fixtures under our belts if we are to avoid fixture congestion at the end of the season.

Please give David a call if you have any concerns or fixtures matters you want to raise. His contact details are on the website.
