Relentless Oakhill Just Keep Winning!

www.teamstats.net

On another cloudy and overcast day, Oakhill came onto the pitch knowing that a win would make it five wins on the bounce and the lads did not let the lions fans down. With a couple of changes taking place, the Lions started with a makeshift look defence of the Bentwood brothers at full backs and Deal and Levitt at centre back.

These changes seemed to have no effect on the team, as Oakhill began the first half as they had finished the second last week, by nonchantlly stroking the ball around with nice one touch passes and creating chances. The first goal came after ten minutes as the ball was spread wide to Ison before he found Kohn on the edge of the area who put the ball into the far corner with ease. One quickly became two as the Westdene team were finding it hard to cope with the pace of Portnoi and the overlapping of Bentwood, and it was from one of these attacks that Cohen pulled the ball back to Portnoi who whipped in a cross which found its way back to him and he put it into the far corner out of the keepers grasp. The Westdene defence just couldnt repel the Lions and almost straight from kick off they broke again and this time it was Last's chance to put the ball into the far corner.

Three nil up after twenty minutes and many of the fans beleived that it was simply game over as Oakhill were playing champagne football, however Westdene got themselves back into the game with a goal which came out of the blue, as from a freekick Passer made a good save low to his left, however a Westdene striker was in the right place to roll home the ball from 8 yards. Westdene know found themselves 3 1 down and quickly got another one as their striker burst through to put the ball away into the far corner. The unthinkable then occured as a long ball over the top found its way to one of their players and he slotted the ball home to make it 3 3 and game on. With 5 minutes left till the break the Oakhill back line stood firm making some great challenges and blocks and Passer made a great save from a one on one. Oakhill came into the break knowing they were the better team and that ultimately over time it would tell as there would be plenty of chances in the second half. There were a few changes by the gaffer, with Cohen going into centre back, Kohn going up front, Levitt Right back, Ant Bentwood going out to the right wing with Ison coming back into the middle.

An early goal was all that was needed and Oakhill were duly given this as from a corner, Portnoi sent in a sublime cross which found Kohn who smashed his header into the top corner. The Lions knew that the game was there for the kill and they pressed on hoping to take advantage of this and were rewarded when A.Bentwood neatlly wriggled through a few challenges before hanging the ball up to the far post where Portnoi was running in to volley home his second and the teams 5th. The Lions were now rampant and with Ison and Kestenbaum winning the balls in the middle of the park and Deal and Cohen solid at the back they knew it would not be long before the strike partnership of Kohn and Last would find the back of the net again. The sixth arrived as Kohn picked up the ball around 30 yards from goal before unleashing a thunderbolt which hit a defender before bouncing over the keeper to give him a hat trick and a deserved match ball. It Looked like the Lions would score every time they pushed forward and from another corner Ison got up well to nod home the seventh and open his Oakhill account. With Both Levitt and Bentwood overlapping on the flanks to great effect and Portnoi and A.Bentwood beating their markers for fun, it was anybodys guess who would score the 8th and from one such resulting move involving 5 players it was Last who got his second of the game as a Kestenbaum shot came back off the post and Last knocked home from 12 yards to get his ninth of the season. With time almost up there was still time for one more as from another corner the ball fell to Cohen, who volleyed home emphatically to leave the score at 9-3.

For the second week in a row the Lions came out in the second half and put in a sensational performance to leave the opposition battered and bewildered. This is now five wins on the spins for Oakhill and sets them up nicely for this sundays FA cup game against Westdene Firsts, before the first of the eagerly anticipated games against their rivals Leeds J-uni. Another great performance boys. Everyone played brillaintly. OTID
