Real Romelle 3 V 2 The Mitre Tavern

Victory!

Welcome back to normality!

This week The R’s got to play a game that they used to play when they were kids and football was fun. Get this:

It was 90 minutes long

It had nothing to do with the LSPL

It wasn’t rainy

The team we played were good and a decent enough bunch of lads too (some of them fell out with Phil, but what do you expect, they ain’t bloody saints).

Don’t get me wrong, I love the whole LSPL thing and are over the moon with this season and the things it’s let us do, but I’d be lying if I said the pressure hadn’t gotten to us a little bit. Before our 12 week break we were ON FIRE. Nobody could touch us, but the break started to get us exited and we haven’t been the same team since. Not that we’re bad, we’re actually awesome, but before the break we were more relaxed and had a lot of hank in games. Now, we’re winning games, but we’re still annoyed that we haven’t won by ‘enough’.

Now that the Melts have roasted everyone (they won 6-0 on Sunday) we are going to have to make to with 2nd. Still, 2nd out of 80 is blinding and we still met the Man Utd team didn’t we? No even the winners will get to say that.

Anyway, I’m rambling. Sunday saw us play in a cup semi-final. We were playing The Mitre Tavern, one of our rivals from last season. They are currently sitting pretty at the top of Divvy 1, while we’re at the top of Divvy 2. The other semi saw some Divvy 1 mid table lot play some Divvy 3 mid table lot.

Our game was clearly the tougher one, and I’m surprised that the FA didn’t hold this one off for the final. Still, hey ho. I text about 18 lads on Wednesday and I ended up with a team of 12 (Higgs sat on the bench all flued up like a hero, while Roy….well it’s a long story, turned up to sit on the bench also). Southwell was still crocked, as were the 2 Newmans, Wessa and Roy (told you it was a long story). Normally I would have drafted in extras but you have to have played two league games to qualify to play, so I was scuppered.

Charlie went right midfield and Corey started up top. To sum up the game, we played really well. Last week was a blip, but we had played so many games in such a short space of time, what did we expect? We played nice stuff on the floor, we were dangerous in the tackle and apart from their goals (a pen and a free kick) they didn’t really threaten at all. We created nice chances too, but I would still like to see more shots, from everyone, from anywhere. I’m serious!

We started off slowly, but like I said, we were playing a good team, and that stuff happens. We were comfortable from the start and soon enough we took the deserved lead on 13 minutes. Corey, using the channels for a change, popped up down the left and he was played in by Bentley. He then took the ball down the wing and hit a crack low cross right across the six yard line. Charlie popped up at the far post after everyone had seemed to miss it and tap in from a few yards. A really nice goal for 1 zip.

That was pretty much it for the half. We ground them out and limited them to set pieces. Charlie showed his fast feet on the wing and begged me to put it in here – there you go Chas. Once again Glover and Washer got amongst it too.

The second half started and James Corlett on the side said to me “you won’t concede here”. Within 20 seconds on 47 minutes Browner does a weird sliding tackle and the ref gives a penno against him for handball. It didn’t look like one from where I was standing but people on the other side of the pitch said the ref had no choice. Sorry Browner, I’m just the messenger! Their fat keeper steps up and hits a rasper for 1-1. Imagine a pony Chilavert.
Things got a bit nervy and remember what I said about us getting angry, well some of us lost our rag and there was no reason to, we were still in control easily enough and the defence all played really well on Sunday and held them off.

On 71 minutes we get a corner, Hammer goes up and Bentley’s cross falls on his swede in what looks like slow motion. It doesn’t go very fast but it’s placed well enough and the Hammer notches his first of the season, the last of the new boys to score.

On 76 minutes, I bring off Brady and Corey and replace them like for like with Corey and Loggy……like for like. Roy is dressed awfully.

On 85 minutes, Washer decides to get booked for uncontrollable arm syndrome. From the drop ball, the ball falls to Gareth at right back and he plays a ball down the line that bamboozles (what a word) their keeper and left full back. Everyone misses the ball and Royston scores an open goal from 15 yards at the angle. Nice the final, to be announced.

We’re still on for a treble lads.

MOM goes to Glover, but it could have been one of about 7 of you. The entire back four were quality and Corey worked really hard up top. Brado, Charlie and Washer played well too….yep that’s everyone….oh and Bentley counts as well……so does Shirley.

See you next week

BN3 Utd 1 v 2 Real Romelle

Victory!

The second game of this double header and although there were goals, there’s not much I can write about here either!

This was a boring boring match. Awful. I’ve never seen a team turn up for a double header and play for two draws like BN3 did. They actually cheered when they drew the first. It’s like we were playing Wolves or something. In two games, they had two shots. Both were in this game and one went in.

Even after they took the lead I knew we’d win. Others didn’t and I can’t blame them.

Royston was due to start but didn’t show till half time. His clocks went back. Southwell done his knee so sits out the first game, for what could be a few. Lee Newman and Wes were still crocked. Loggy came in for Phil, who had boot issues (the less said about this, the better) and Corey started for Southwell. Chas came off for a rest and Gary Newbucks tried out his bionic ankle.

The game started as the first finished. Really badly and the half ended what felt really quickly. We were all so angry for drawing the last game, we didn’t get started. We also had a new ref, who’s clock went faster than Usain Bolt.

I brought Chas and Roy on for the 2nd half for Brady and Glover who were both out of gas, rightly so for Cake. Chas came on and played so well, I’m giving him MOM. The 2nd half, I swear to god lasted less than half hour. Still they went and scored early doors, 2 minutes in the 2nd half. That is nearly 2 hours of football without a goal.

After that we hit the ball cleanly thrice and score two goals. It is widely accepted that Corey makes the best runs in the world getting in to channels and drawing folk out, but he left his shooting boots at home. Soon after their goal we run at them, for what feels like the 90th time, Corey breaks and pulls it to Charlie. He spanks it cleanly and the keeper, who isn’t actually a keeper saves, but the ball falls nicely to Roy, who also hits it cleanly for 1-1. This is about 10 minutes in to the 2nd half.

Soon after I shout to the ref, “how much longer?” He answers “6 minutes” He was having a f**king laugh. Still, we broke straight after this and with the wind behind him, Charlie hit another beauty. It pinged off of the crossbar and bounced down, only to hit the keeper on the back of the legs and go in. The cheer we threw up was massive and the relief was beautiful. I picked up Carl Smeato and hugged him like a wrestler. Sadly, I have to put it in as an o.g but Chas should get the credit here, it was a great effort. That’s why he gets MOM.

Cup semi final next week lads. We can put the LSPL behind us for a week and play a game that we sign up for at the beginning of the season. We all love a cup final don’t we?

The Mitre Tavern are no mugs. They beat us last year and are doing well in divvy 1. Let’s have ‘em.

BN3 Utd 0 v 0 Real Romelle

Honours Even...

Yep, we dropped points, get over it.

Our 300 score in the LSPL is long gone. Fair play to the Melts. If you boys keep it up, you'll have a cracking day out. But if you slip god damn you; we'll be all over you!

Well, sadly there’s not much I can write about here. You know I’ll give it a go though. Mostly because once I start typing, I find it hard to stop, and secondly, I know this a good little spot for me to actually talk to everyone and be noticed!

Have a look at the team that started here. We had a few injuries but that’s no excuse. This team could easily beat most teams in the Sunday league. Nope that isn’t a Martin O’Neill exaggeration either. Out injured were Lee Newman, Gary Newman and Wes Millis. Royston was back from suspension to play but he was asked to play the 2nd game in this double header, as we had won 9 zip the game before.

Remember the game that we played against Shelbyville that went to extra time. This is no exaggeration when I say that we battered BN3 as badly as we battered them, but sometimes, things don’t work out as you plan.

I can’t fault the way we played or what we did. The chances are, we could have played them for 90 minutes and still not scored in this game. And, the longer it went, the angrier we got, which is a nail in our coffin anyway. I’ve said a load of times, when we’re angry, we’re pony

I’d be lying if I said we played brilliantly. We didn’t. The first 20 minutes were awful. We missed easy chances, we didn’t defend well and our wing play was non existent. Fair enough, the pitch was bad and we attacked a strong wind but so what? We’ve played better and scored goals in a lot worse.

After that little spell, we smashed them everywhere except on the score. There was a blatant handball on the line that the ref missed, but we can’t blame her for our failure to create and score chances. Still, another clean sheet though, taking us to 5 this season. We concede less than a goal a game. Nice.

Southwell also went off injured, and he’ll tell you that he wasn’t firing on all cylinders. His average goes down after these two games and he be sweating on his goal scorer title if he misses more.

If we played BN3 this week, we would smash them. Simples. But we’re not. We have to hope the Melts slip up, but at least now we can concentrate on the games that we actually play, and actually enjoy our games more, which is why we singed to play for Romelle in the first place.

We’re not giving up though. If we can get to Old Trafford, we bloody will. We’re still unbeaten. We’re still the Invicibles. We’ve got our league to win, (which we CAN still lose), a cup semi final to play and another cup to win. A treble is a nice little consolation ain’t it?

MOM goes to Glover. He was everywhere and their midfield didn’t do anything because of him.

We’ll be back men
