Stow A.F.C. 2 v 2 Leithen Rovers

Playing a rare home game Stow were dealt an early blow when full back Riddell limped off with a hamstring problem. Matters were compounded when Brunton fired Leithen Rovers into the lead from 25 yards after 36 minutes. Despite the set back the home side were looking the livier of the two and they were not happy at referee Hume when he chalked off a Hossack goal giving the visitors an offside decision. However Hossack laid on a pass for Hewitson to nip in and draw Stow level. The Stow management team made a few changes and went for the win. The visitors were clearly embarassed when substitute McMath swan dived in the Stow box and referee Hume had no hesitation in yellow carding the Jacques Cousteau wannabe. With just 3 minutes left Gillan rifled a shot at goal which cannoned back off the crossbar, Hossack followed up to be denied by Crawford in the Leithen goal but persisitence paid off and Hossack eventually found the back of the net on his second attempt. Stow were tallying up the points when McMath took advantage of a goal mouth scramble to level the scores on the the 90 minutes.

Hawick Legion 5 v 5 Stow A.F.C. (after extra time, Stow won on Pens)

Stow made it through to the final of the Border Cup after being pushed all the way by Hawick Legion. With the scores at 5 all following extra time it took a Ryan Bellamy penalty in sudden death to take the village side through.

Full marks to Hawick who pulled out all the stops to make the pitch ready for this twice cancelled fixture. The home side were ahead after just 1 minute when Hope fired them into the lead after the Stow defence had twice failed to clear their lines. However 5 minutes later good work by Hewitson saw him square the ball for Hossack to finish. The visitors began to build in confidence and it was no surprise when a Hewitson flick allowed Hossack to add a second and put Stow into the league. Just on half time Legion equalised through Hope from 8 yards out.

Stow then lost the services of Gareth Wood but his replacement Muir soon weighed in with a goal on 72 minutes when the Legion failed to clear a corner. Back again came the Legion with Aries levelling on 80 minutes 3-3.

Full time came and the heavy pitch and failing light were taking their toll. Hossack put Stow ahead once again just into extra time but Lamb managed to avoid the offside to level again. Hossack once again added to his and Stow's tally with just 10 minutes remaining but with just 3 minutes on the clock the home side levelled once again! Penalties would decide and with some of the saves the keepers had throughout the match it was going to be close!

Stow keeper Barry Scott saved the first two with both Gillan and Smith scoring. Then Craig Wood and Pawel Marszalek both missed the target with their kicks with Legion scoring their next three. Former Legion player Stuart Hogg calmly stepped up to rattle home his penalty for Stow and take the spot kicks to sudden death. The Legion went first and missed the target, step up Ryan Bellamy to score and send Stow into hysteria and the Border Cup Final.
