Awaiting fixture details

Hello! So its a monday... and we've just played football! And it wasn't five a side..! Quite the shock all round I'm sure you'll agree! But it was the long awaited final of the West Riding Shield!
The match began as so many others have this season, with Kate and Ellie being lost! Quite how we do it EVERY MATCH is a complete mystery, and this time was no different, despite our best attempts to follow Cat, she only went and went wrong herself, leaving us on the usual tour of the surrounding countryside! It was even tricky to find once we were next door, as the pitch was most offputtingly surrounded by a massive stadium! Still, after some chat with the wardens (another first for a pink ladies match!) we got in, made it to the changing rooms and felt extremely professional to see all our kits laid out and some nice little letters written to us by Jay!
The changing rooms were, perhaps surprisingly, not the best ever (but far from the worst!) The toilet (until it was violated by Jo) was very nice and even had toilet roll! The had a bed in the middle which seemed very odd. Apparently its in case of injuries, but as if you'd get injured and then think, you know what don't want to watch the rest of the match, think i'll just have a kip in the changing rooms!
Warm up was well organised by Jen C, we galloped like grand national winning horses, grapevined like marvin gaye at wembley and even put in a cheeky 40% sprint. Then we had the novelty of heading back in to the changing rooms for an inspiring team chat from Jay. The novelty was in the changing rooms, not in the team chat, we have had these before.
As usual the report on the game itself will be limited, although judging by the number of flashbulbs going off you'll be able to piece together most of the action from facebook within a few hours! Highlights (for comedy, entertainment and even skill!) included....
Shazza kicking off when Kate used her name to get someone to mark her "AS IF she knows my name. We're NOT best friends!"
Angry Lee getting most cross when their player had been injured and the ref decided it would be nicer to make sure that she was alright than to continue playing sort of around her body! Shazza couldn't BELIEVE it... "You are SUCH an idiot... you know that?"
Cat Mc having an absolute stormer in centre mid, and breaking a new record for the highest shot about the crossbar. Have you considered a transfer to rugby?
Katie running more in the first 90 minutes than all training sessions this year combined!
Jen C scoring a trademarkly brilliant penalty.
Everyone playing well and the score after 90 minutes.... 2-2.
And so on to what is now officially our specialist subject (on mastermind).. EXTRA TIME! There's clearly something about it that appeals to the pink ladies - perhaps that it didn't begin until after 2pm, perhaps that our fitness from shuttles was coming through, or perhaps just cos we're hoping to get sponsorship from EXTRA chewing gum next year but we were incredible!
Goals came more frequently than murders on the orient express, the passing was slicker than near the oil boat where Jen and Lee's dad works, and the defence was more solid than the great wall of china! Best of all we scored some brilliant goals!
Integral to this was Katie / Eddo who was massively deserving of what can only be described as the biggest landslide result ever for man of the match! She was phenomenal, kept going write to the end and just kept putting in fantastic crosses and the like. Well done!
Whilst katie deserves mention, for me the most significant thing about this match was how well every single pink lady came together. No one had a bad game, everyone pulled together and worked for each other and we couldn't have done it without anyone! As Jay likes to say, "I could name a million positives for every one of you" Now this is clearly ridiculous, I couldn't name a million of anything, even types of cake, but we were frankly pretty damn awesome!
And so... WE WON! HURRAH for us! The ceremony was brilliant in that the trophies (individual ones) were absolutely AWESOME! Love them and will have pride of place on my mantleplace for many years to come!
As the crowds started to drift home, a very surreal moment occurred when Shazza's mum insisted on Kate having a look at Shazza's ankle (once she'd asked the vital question are you a medic or a dentist) I tried to explain that though a medic my knowledge was a best shady but she clearly thought that i was essentially a consultant. Calling in backup bushy came over but for some reason shazza was VERY embarassed by this and immeadiately but the aforementioned foot back into the sock.
There followed a surreal conversation in which Shazza decided to test out her debating skills by arguing a pretty tricky point, that we have been LUCKY! This started by some chat about the penalty not being a penalty, then said without this we'd have lost (bushy's response of "it was 6-2" was pretty much ignored!), and then, my favourite bit went on to how we were all best friends with the ref. Apparently he "knew all our names" and was encouraging us! I can only imagine that she confused Kate's somewhat special fall into the ref as an attempt at a hug as, unless someone is keeping a massive secret about their older boyfriend, no one had ever seen him before!
And it was with exteme sadness that we realised that this would be Jo's last game with us. Thanks so much for joining us from Manchester this year! In particular we've been loving the one liners, not so keen on the excessive discussion of your bowel habits, and of course, where would we be without your anger?! Don't think I'm expressing it very well, but we love you!
Also a MASSIVE thank you to all our supporters! It was definitely our biggest crowd ever and it was so nice particularly to have so many families and friends and made such a difference! In particular special mention to Sus's grandparents who came all the way from Norwich, only to get attacked by Jo's wayward shot within minutes of arrival!
And finally, Jay. Thank you! For all the little things you did to make this match extra special. We really appreciated it, and hope you appreciate the result!

Now, after the epicness of the NAMS report, and a decidedly slipperly slope on the length of these things I'm going to try extra hard to be quick this time, before I cause some kind of network meltdown for most unnecessary crap written in one report. Think this paragraph could also have been cut!
Anyway, this was a bit of a novelty game. It was the FIFTH (and yes i repeat FIFTH) time that we'd be playing the vixens this year, and the match that mattered the most, as following the work of "met maths" jay, we had discovered that despite him telling us after pretty much all of the last 10 matches this season that "That's it girls. I'm afraid we're definitely down now" we could in fact still stay up!
This in itself caused some death threats when it was learnt that we could have just taken the 3 points and run, rather than gamble on the match itself.
Pre-match, Katie saved a life. Now as she's not a proper doctor (or even a proper medical student) but an inferior life form that goes by the name of "dentist" there was some initial scepticism as to the likeliness of this. We asked whether we'd misheard, had she saved a lime (from being stuck with the moody lemons)? But no, as the corny music came in on the radio she began to tell us a tale. A tale of a boy born with two peg teeth (for full details consult the internet - but essentially two little ones), bullied, picked on and teased his entire life because he didn't have a long teeth like all the other boys. His one attempt to get a girl thwarted when he accidentally got her tongue caught in the hole under the tooth... Life was hard, and he could see no brightness in his future. Then along came Katie, fleetingly crossing paths like a fairy across a night sky, and doing something that would change his life forever.... After many consultations, and after hearing he'd been turned down by Jim'll fix it, she made a decision that has not just affected the course of his life but possibly those of all his children, grandchildren and pets.... she bought some white tack, filled up his teeth, and gave him a look in the mirror. He was thrilled! And so another pink lady saves another life....
ANYWAY, back to the match! Katie rocked up fresh from life saving surgery, but totally unprepared for football. Not only did she have no shin pads (and then very rudely turn her nose up at the spare pair for being too tight!) but she had NOT washed her kit (and didn't even try and pretend this was some tactic to prevent the defenders getting near her) and had only just eaten a cheese and tomato sandwich (with mayonaise that for some reason katie could not believe could possibly be mayonnaise... what IS that? what did you think - mushroom sauce?!)
Jo and Cat rocked up and proceeded to discuss their pre-match bowel preferences in what can only be described as excruciating detail. Amy nearly didn't rock up at all as whilst she was following the second half of the directions perfectly, and continuing up a road, her complete failure on the first half meant that she was on the wrong road... ERROR!
We had a great warm up, during which further of the afore-mentioned death threats were made. Apparently some people would rather have been revising, others would rather still be in bed and still others would rather still be drunk than in this hungover mess.
Onto the match! Think this is where the budget cuts on match report length will have to be made as I seem to have gone on far too long on the pre-match build up already.
We were FANTASTIC! This is a massive generalisation as I'm not going to lie the first 15 minutes we were less switched on than an energy saving light bulb during a power cut. But this was massively offset by some simply INCREDIBLE goals from our super shooters. Both Kat Fox (using her knowledge of vixens to great effect) scored two absolute screamers as did Mirjam. Cat Mc got two assists moving her to the top of the assist league table! Rumours that she is the only person who bothers to tell Kate when she has got an assist are totally untrue!
The other great thing was that for the first time in what feels like decades (but is actually now I think about it just since last week at NAMS) we actually held onto a lead! This was largely due to the combined work of everyone! Sus made some more incredible saves, Ellie was sensational in centre back making more tackles than a fisherman with a can of worms, Lee headed the ball back and forth with Kate to beat their record for the day (and perhaps set up an addition to the marathon challenge?) and Bushy and Sharifa both did excellently both at the back and going forward. Mirjam and Cat had a brilliant game together in centre mid with Cat mastering the slide on the damp ground, kat fox ran them ragged as did Nga and Amy indeed. We have so many great runners I'm thinking pink ladies olympic 4x100m relay champs london 2012. anyone game? Posh, casually having a run around before work was dangerous up front, as was Katie until her leg broke (not literally) sort it out by monday! I have a sneaking feeling I've forgotten someone which could turn out to be a little bit awkward... if its you then just remember that its because you were so flawless that you fitted into the team makeup like a jellyfish in the sea and so it was just impossible to see your brilliance.
And so we WON! Very exciting mostly because this meant the death threats were off and we might actually just stay up (if we keep our fingers REALLY tightly crossed that hebden don't have any more great games!) EXCITING STUFF!
Kat Fox decided she wanted a group warm down, and so contrived this ridiculous story about losing her ring making us wander around like chickens pecking at seeds for about an hour until it conveniently turned up as she tipped her bag upside down... disaster!
Thanks as always to our supporters, especially Jen C, Jen C's ankle support, Laura R, Jo's boyfriend, Jay and Jay's boy friend. It was a lovely Monday evening in the sun!
