Home league match played on 23 February 2013.
Kicked off at 2:00 PM

The Accies continued their good run of form with another win to extend their unbeaten run in 2013. On a tight pitch the ball was being moved quickly with no real threats early on; the best opening falling to their forward who ran through after a ball over the top but he managed to fall over his own feet under no pressure. He did that quite a lot as the game went on; Matt Glendenning noting that midway through the second half to much amusement.

It was the Accies that started carving out the chances though. Both Bri and Dan Kav got past a couple of men but the pull backs either resulted in corners or avoided everyone in the box. Swifty was through a couple of times as was Daz but the ball seemed to stick in their feet and it started to feel like a goal might take some doing. Indeed, right at the end of the first half Daz mis-cued when in space and Swifty swung at the mis-cue right on the goal line but it span off his toe and out for a goal kick; pretty much summarising the half where lots of endeavour resulted in little to show for the effort. There was just time for their forward to fall over his own feet again, and the half ended.

Half time 0-0

The second half began in much the same vein, with high Green having some possession insofar as slightly winning the pinball game that had evolved but without really creating any chances. Their forward fell over again after a run down the left.

Slowly the Accies came into it. Jamie and Matt were winning everything in the middle as the ball started coming inside a bit. Bri and Stan were getting further forward and Dan Kav was getting involved more, collectively winning a few corners in succession. The defence were holding firm and Ryan and Reedy were getting their foot through it more as the ball continued to bounce around on the hard surface; Tony was reading the game well at right back.

After an hour Swifty was put through a couple of times in quick succession but the keeper saved his left footed attempts on both occasions. Daz flicked the ball through for Brian but it just eluded him as he tried to turn back inside. Eventually the goal came as a slightly harsh handball was given in the box and Swifty dispatched the penalty into the top left corner. Probably not a penalty but a deserving lead nevertheless.

High Green tried to respond immediately and got the ball down the right channel, their forward running onto it and cutting inside before falling over his own feet.

The Accies did have a spell of rare passing for a few minutes. Hodgy had come on for Daz and swapped a couple of passes with Dan Kav up the right, winning another corner. Steve McCulloch came on for Tony and Hodgy dropped to right back and as the spaces began to appear they were exploited, first Jamie put Swifty through again who drew a great save from the keeper on the half volley and then Dan Kav put Jamie through one-on-one with a sublimely weighted ball; but two bites of the cherry still didn’t further the advantage. ;-)

With the clock winding down High Green had one more foray toward goal, but the solid Godders collected safely after the Green forward had once again fallen over his own feet and the Accies recorded a deserved win.

Full time 1-0
