Angers SCO

Angers SCO is a French professional football club based in Angers, Maine-et-Loire. The club was founded in 1919 and currently competes in Ligue 1, the top tier of French football.

Angers SCO has never won the Ligue 1 title, but the club has won the Coupe de France twice, in 1957 and 2019. The club has also reached the final of the Coupe de la Ligue on three occasions, most recently in 2017.

History

Angers SCO results

Angers SCO was founded in 1919 as a merger between two local clubs, Union Sportive d'Angers and Club Sportif de l'Ouest. The club's first season in existence was in the Division d'Honneur, the second tier of French football at the time.

Angers SCO was promoted to Ligue 1 for the first time in 1960. The club remained in Ligue 1 for the next 10 seasons, before being relegated in 1970.

Angers SCO returned to Ligue 1 in 1976 and has remained in the top flight ever since. The club's best finish in Ligue 1 came in 1978, when they finished in third place.

Recent seasons

Angers SCO has been a consistent mid-table side in recent seasons. The club finished in 13th place in Ligue 1 in 2021-22.

Angers SCO's most famous player is probably Stéphane Pacetti. Pacetti played for the club from 1992 to 2003 and made over 300 appearances. He was also a member of the France national team.
