Introduction

The American Amateur Football Association (AAFA) is a non-profit organization that oversees amateur football leagues in the United States. The AAFA was founded in October 1911 by the New York State Football Association to standardize rules and procedures for U.S. soccer.

The AAFA's mission is to "promote and develop the game of amateur football in the United States." The association does this by providing a variety of services to its member leagues, including:

Establishing and enforcing rules and regulations
Providing insurance coverage
Providing marketing and promotional materials
Organizing tournaments and competitions

The AAFA currently has over 1,000 member leagues, representing over 100,000 players. The association's headquarters are located in New York City.

History

The AAFA was founded in October 1911 by the New York State Football Association. The association's first president was Dr. G.R. Manning.

In 1912, the AAFA initiated a national cup open to all amateur U.S. teams. The cup was played for two years, 1912 and 1913, before being superseded by the National Challenge Cup, now known as the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

The AAFA continued to grow in the years following its founding. By the 1920s, the association had over 500 member leagues.

The AAFA's growth slowed in the years following World War II. However, the association has seen renewed growth in recent years.

Current Structure

The AAFA is governed by a board of directors, which is elected by the association's member leagues. The board of directors is responsible for setting the association's policies and procedures.

The AAFA's day-to-day operations are overseen by a staff of employees. The staff is responsible for implementing the board of directors' policies and procedures.

The AAFA is divided into several geographic regions. Each region has its own set of leagues. The leagues within each region compete against each other for the AAFA championship.
