Devon Walking Football League
The Devon Walking Football League is an amateur football league for players aged 50 and over. It was founded in 2018 and currently has 20 teams competing in the Taking Care Devon Walking Football league.
The rules of walking football are similar to regular football, but with a few key differences. Players are not allowed to run, and the ball must be kept below waist height. This makes the game less physically demanding and more accessible to players of all fitness levels.
History
The Devon Walking Football League was founded in 2018 by a group of enthusiasts who wanted to create a more accessible way for people to enjoy the game of football. The league has grown rapidly since then, and now has teams competing from all over Devon.
The league is affiliated with the Taking Care Foundation, a charity that promotes health and wellbeing through sport. The foundation provides support to the league, including funding for equipment and coaching.
Format
The Devon Walking Football League plays its matches once a month throughout the footballing season. A finals day is then run at the end of each season, at Devon FA Headquarters in Newton Abbot.
The league is divided into two divisions, the Premier Division and the Intermediate Division. The teams in each division play each other once, with the top two teams in each division qualifying for the finals day.
