The Galway Football Association (GAA) is the governing body for association football in County Galway, Ireland. It is responsible for organizing and managing the Galway & District League, Eamonn Deacy Park, and Galway W.F.C.
History
The GAA was founded in 1888 by a group of Gaelic sports enthusiasts in Galway City. The first Galway County Football Championship was held in 1890, and the first Galway & District League season began in 1904.
The GAA has grown significantly in recent years, and now has over 100 affiliated clubs in County Galway. The Galway & District League is one of the largest amateur football leagues in Ireland, with over 100 teams competing in various divisions.
Eamonn Deacy Park
Eamonn Deacy Park is the home of the Galway GAA. The stadium is located in Doughiska, Galway City, and has a capacity of 8,000.
Eamonn Deacy Park was opened in 1977, and has hosted many important matches over the years, including Republic of Ireland U21 internationals and UEFA Cup matches.
Galway W.F.C.
Galway W.F.C. is the women's football team affiliated with the Galway GAA. The team was founded in 2007, and has won the Women's National League on three occasions (2013, 2014, and 2018).
Galway W.F.C. plays its home games at Eamonn Deacy Park. The team has a large and passionate following, and is one of the most successful women's football teams in Ireland.
