North West Women's Regional Football League

The North West Women's Regional Football League (NWWRFL) is one of the eight English regional leagues comprising the fifth and sixth tiers of the English women's football pyramid. The other seven leagues are the North East, East Midlands, West Midlands, Eastern, London and South East, South West and Southern.

The NWWRFL includes teams from several counties in the north west of England. Broadly, these are Cumbria, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Cheshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire.

History

North West Womens Regional League action

The league was founded in 1989, with the merger of the Greater Manchester and Merseyside League, the North West Women's League, and the Three Counties League. On formation, it had 42 teams, spread over four divisions.

The league has grown steadily since then, and currently has 34 teams competing in three divisions: Premier Division, Division One North, and Division One South.

Current Season

The 2023-2024 season is currently underway. The Premier Division is being led by Blackburn Community Women, while the Division One North is being led by AFC Darwen Ladies First, and the Division One South is being led by Penrith AFC Ladies.

Promotion and Relegation

The top team in the Premier Division is promoted to the FA Women's National League Division One North, while the bottom two teams are relegated to Division One North and Division One South respectively.

The top team in Division One North is promoted to the Premier Division, while the bottom two teams are relegated to Division One South.

The top team in Division One South is promoted to Division One North, while the bottom two teams are relegated to the Cheshire Women's & Youth Football League or the Greater Manchester Women's Football League.
