First game of the season is upon us, the sun is shining and the boys are happy..... but will they be at the final whistle ?

With no Josh Sewter available due to him being in quarantine, Will once again stepped up to take the number 1 shirt. A tough ask first game of the season, the first game in Division 2 but both Brendan and I knew he’d be upto the task and upto the task he was.

As the whistle blew and the game started it was clear to see there were two very good teams on the park. Both teams trying to take charge and both teams cancelling each other out, that was until old dependable Harry L put an inch perfect pass through for Archie to chase who calmly slotted it into the back of the net making it 1-0 to Chellaston. A very cool and calm finish making Archie the first goal scorer of the season, the first of many for him I’m sure.

Duffield weren’t going to roll over though, clearly a very good, well organised team and sure enough it was soon 1-1. A fair reflection of the game at this point i felt.

After another good passage of play, Jayden played a great through ball to Kailem who with the cheekiest of chips over the opposing goalkeeper, made it 2-1 to chellaston. Great to see him on the scoresheet once again.

Now our boys were starting to take control and the confidence was starting to show. Josh King went on a forward run from left back and when space opened up in front of him, he didn’t think twice about pulling the trigger and wow, what a shot. Straight into the topcorfrom about 30 yards. Not a better goal you are ever likely to see, well done Josh, fantastic ????????. 3-1.

Now with seeing these goals flying in, our top goal scorer of last season Karsen had the bit between his teeth and wanted in on the action. After dispossessing one of Duffields players, a quick drop of the shoulder sent there player the wrong way and a driving shot into the top corner made the score 4-1. Good to see our strikers finding there shooting boots !!

Duffield weren’t done there though and after some lovely footwork it was 4-2.

I felt we were in charge though and having no subs, Duffield were starting to tire and we were piling on the pressure. A corner was awarded to chellaston and our back line moved forward once again giving us a height advantage in the box. A perfect ball in once again from Kailem and kingy and Barlow were nearly fighting each other to head it home. Josh narrowly won that one and the score was now 5-2 and this is how the game would end.

A fantastic first game of the season where having moved up a division, we beat last years runners up by 3 clear goals, that’s quite an achievement and something the boys should be very proud of like both Brendan and I are. It was a true team effort where ALL the lads played there part and worked tirelessly for each other.

Man of the match today could have gone to a number of players, Harry’s Bs great leadership at the back, Josh Kings 2 goals from left back ! Kailems goal and one assist, Ben and Shays battling but both Brendan and I called it quite early on, Tom had a great game in the middle. Alongside side Harry L the boys kept a very good Duffield side quiet in the middle. Tom had a great performance where he battled and battled never giving up until he took an elbow to the ribs cutting his playing time short. Well done Tom, keep up the hard work.

Next up is Allestree away. Another good footballing team who have just dropped from Division 1 so it will certainly be a challenge, but a challenge I’m sure the boys are more than capable of overcoming. Well done all ?? ?? ??
