Away league match played on 09 January 2011.
Kicked off at 10:45 AM

A good game? It was in terms of a contest. Not in terms of quality. Both teams were poor and although the pitch didn’t help, it was the same for the both teams. It’s possibly the smallest pitch we will play on all season but that is no excuse for our performance. I’m not sure we deserved to lose two nil, but in my opinion we didn’t deserve to win.

The referee wasn’t faultless but we have had a lot worse this season. He let several tasty fouls go unpunished (for both teams) and failed to play advantage on a couple of occasions. That aside, he didn’t really influence the result though. The Queens Head linesman on the other hand did seem quite flag happy. Especially on the one occasion when he flagged for someone that wasn’t even involved with the play, after Lukey had ran through and found himself one on one with their keeper. At one nil down it’s fair to say it was quite a key moment in the game. Who wants to be a lino though!!!!

This was a big game for us after our recent run of results, but we really didn’t do ourselves justice. Hardly any football was actually played. Constantly we thumped the ball down their center halves throat who dominated the game in the air against our smaller forwards. Several big players were unavailable / late / didn’t show but our starting eleven was and is good enough to get three points against Queens Head (in my opinion).

We kicked off anyway, and as usual we started slowly. They looked like they might threaten on several occasions but the quality in the final third for them wasn’t there. (Nor was it for us to be fair). After several half chances for both sides, and a couple of misplaced elbows, The Queens Head managed to get the first real chance. A penalty! And a penalty it was. Shaggy brought down their man in the area and the referee had no option, but to award a spot kick. One nil!

The first half finished as it had begun. With very average football.

HT 1-0

So could the 2nd half be of a better standard than the first? Not really! The pitch was still the same (obviously) and neither team really seemed to lift themselves. With about twenty minutes left, Pascy went with three at the back in an attempt to get the equaliser, but horrendous marking from us at a set piece let their captain in at the back post for the softest of goals. Two nil! Even Gaylo could have probably scored it.

And that’s how it finished.

Match highlights:

*Chuff once again performed his Huffle Chuffle down the left wing.

*Silk went flying when trying to take a quick free kick.

*Thompson screamed out a combination of noises at someone before giving up half way through his intended sentence.

*Handley complained to the referee about the penalty decision even though their players boot was lay about 5 yards from the player he had just chopped down.
