Goals:

Kyle Irwin ?
The game got off to a difficult start for Villa as defensive lapses allowed Ards Rangers to open the scoring in the 22nd minute. A further mistake at the back just nine minutes later compounded their woes, with the visitors doubling their lead before the half-hour mark. Villa struggled to find composure as the first half drew to a close with Ards Rangers comfortably ahead.
The second half saw Villa attempt to claw their way back into the contest. Carson Mann tested the opposition goalkeeper with a shot in the 50th minute, signalling the home side’s intent. Just three minutes later, James Boyd came agonisingly close to reducing the deficit but was denied by the crossbar. However, it was Ards Rangers who struck again in the 55th minute, extending their lead to 3-0.
In response, Villa made a tactical substitution at the 56th minute, bringing on Jim Robinson for James Boyd to inject fresh energy into the midfield. The move paid dividends shortly after when Carson Mann converted a penalty in the 59th minute, also credited with his own assist, to give the hosts a lifeline. Thomas Drysdale followed up with an effort saved by the Ards keeper a minute later, keeping the visitors’ advantage intact.
The match continued to be physical and competitive, with Ards Rangers receiving a yellow card in the 67th minute. Villa found a spark in the 73rd minute as Kyle Irwin whipped in a stunning long-range ball, which dropped over the opposing keeper to halve the deficit to 3-2. The home side was given renewed hope as the game entered its final stages.
Injury forced another change for Villa in the 80th minute when Paul Mulholland replaced Marcus McGrath in midfield. McGrath carried off on a stretcher after what appears to be a bad knee injury. Kyle Irwin remained a threat, but his attempt in the 84th minute was saved, denying Villa a crucial equaliser. Unfortunately, defensive frailties resurfaced again in the 88th minute when Ards Rangers capitalised on another mistake to restore their two-goal cushion at 4-2.
Villa made a final substitution at the 89th minute, with Harvey Carnduff coming on for Joshua Colville. The match saw further disciplinary action with Ards Rangers receiving another yellow card late in stoppage time. A yellow card was also issued to Villa's Ryan Mann for dissent at the end of the game.
Despite Abbey Villa’s spirited efforts, Ards Rangers secured a 4-2 victory at Adams Park, leaving the home side to reflect on costly defensive errors that ultimately decided the outcome.
#We all wish Marcus McGrath a speedy recovery.??
