Clean sheet and a bag full of goals

This CDCFL cup prelim fixture could have been a potential banana skin for Affinity but a solid performance saw us through on a decent pitch for the time of year.

Affinity started well on a large pitch which allowed a lot of space in midfield for both teams. Our direct style led to a number of early chances, which were soon converted into goals by some classy finishing from Mike C, Ian and Gary. Another first half hat trick for a Cordon, this time it was Gary.

The second half continued with more of the same, Affinity pressure leading to a neatly finished own goal. Ian almost added another with a looping header from a corner which was handled on the line and not to be out done by his brothers; lee came off the bench to tuck the penalty into the bottom corner. The result was rounded off with a quality through ball from Gary, which was neatly finished by Jamie to make it 8-0. (See Video   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IL6JI_YsGzQ )

The weekly lesson learned came in the form of a yellow card for Ian for showing decent after the referee awarded his 98th free kick to Hinckley for a range of ILLEGAL calls including “I’ve got” “I’ll have” “ leave it” and “mine”. Maybe we can work on this in training!

The headline display came at the back from a solid defensive unit supported by a commanding performance by James P in goal. The defensive display led to Hinckley barely having a sniff in front of goal and a satisfying zero in the one sided score line.
