Revenge taken on the Spartans!
I was very happy with the response from all players involved showing a fight, attitude and commitment in restoring a little pride after the following weeks embarrassment.
Great game to watch as a Barnets Utd supporter/Player as we dominated the game virtually from start to finish even though the score line may not look that way but unfortunately it was just one of those games where we could have and should been 5,6,7 up by half time but just could not finish our chances.
After Micky's solo effort and a missed penatly by Jordan our lead was cancelled out by a dodgy penalty decision we went into half time 1-1 and we knew the game was in our hands and if we kept at em surely the goals would come.
Time after time the ball was cleared of the line, just over the bar or wide, I thought to myself at points thru-ought "this isnt going to be our day" especially when Sparta manage to sneak a goal against the run of play making it 2-1 to them with 28mins to play!!
Amazing they had approximately 4-5 shots all game and scored 2 yet we could have easily been into double figures by now and were trailing??
We kept at it determined to not let our heads drop (which was good to see from all) and try find that equaliser. Then after another attacking piece of play the ball falls to Sam's feet from know where pops it from 20 yards in the right hand corner leaving the keeper rooted! 2-2!
Approx 20mins to play we thru everything at em practically playing with 3 sometimes 4 players upfront but we were determined to get that winner. At times with us pushing so many players forward it did leaves us a little open in middle but our Star Man Gavin bossed it for 90mins taking there main men out of the game!
Then in the 82 minute we get our just deserve... Downsey pops in the winning header that was initially saved by there keeper, scrappy goal but they all count!
What impressed me the most after going in front with 8 minutes to go plus 6 minutes injury time i did not need to start organising the players they knew exactly what to do and gradually one by one we came a defence unit fighting for each other. Micky, Lee and Jordan all dropping back into the middle leaving Matty up top on his own to make sure the game was seen out and the fully deserved victory was ours!
Well done, we play like that every week (only finish our chances) and we wont go far wrong!!
