Home cup match played on 18 October 2008.
Kicked off at 2:00 AM

Back in Cup action this week and on paper it looked like a home banker. In the past we have been known to slip up in games like these, we all remember South Tonbirdge a couple of years ago. We had just beaten them 7-1 in the league and they were rock bottom but when we played them in the cup we lost 2 zip at home!

This time however we proved to be too strong for the opposition and ran out easy 7-1 winners.

It wasn't all fun and games as in true B&A style we conceded an early goal with the old 'ball over the top while every one stands still and watches their striker put in the net' routine. At this point we weren't even playing football, no one was talking and the final balls were rubbish. Mid way through the half a goal mouth scramble was eventually finished off by Gozzy to bring the scores level and also leave the striker on 49 Blackham goals. Minutes later a pin point cross from Merv was met with deadly precision from the advancing Hobbit. 2-1.  It stayed that way until the half.

We came out in the 2nd half wanting to finish the game off early and enjoy ourselves. It took less than 10minutes before the Hobbit pounced on some slack Roseland’s defending and tucked the ball home for 3-1.

A great ball from Huffers allowed Gozzy to slip in and bag his 2nd of the game and his 50th goal for the club. Not bad considering the short time he's been with us.

With the game safe everyone settled down and we began to knock the ball about. With the gaffer in goal it was left to his team of deputy div’s on the side line to make the tactical changes. They employed the Paper, scissors, stone method of deciding who to sub off and bring in on. It worked well with Mitch, Pervo and Badger all coming on and contributing well. Woolgar stood out especially with a commanding role at centre to ensure a 2nd half clean sheet for the boys in red.

Hathaway and Baggo got in on the scoring action, Baggo needing two attempts to finish his off after 1st striking the post.

The scoring was rounded off by the hard working Hathaway with a Maradona'esc goal, dribbling round the Roseland’s midfield before driving the ball low in to the bottom right hand corner of the goal.

It finished 7-1 but could have been more but for some fantastic saves from the Roseland’s keeper. Still it was a great day for the two strikers both grabbing a brace, both keeping up their ratio of more goals scored than games played and Gozzy reaching the big 5 0 but it was Ferg who picked up the MOM award for his hard working classy performance on the left flank. He played with confidence happy to take people on, always working hard to win the ball and was unlucky not to cap the performance with a goal. He also played with a massive smile on his face which he later told me was because he couldn’t stop laughing at Hobbit and Gozzy bitching at each other.
