On a heavy pitch against a physically strong Phoenix 11 the girls flew out of the blocks. The first 35 mins saw some of the best football the team has played. Team shape, bravery and a trust in each other set the foundations. Millie plus a back four of Summer, Mya, Brooke and Lauren, protected by Faye showed a calmness from which the girls played out time after time. In midfield, Kaitlyn and Sophie pulled the strings, bringing in Mya and Charlotte on the flanks. Carly working tirelessly up front leaving no rest-bite for their opponents defence. In one of many flowing back to front moves, Charlotte was left with the task of lifting the ball over an unbelieving GK, a stunning finish. 9mins later, Sophie linked with Kaitlyn who guided the ball into the bottom corner of the goal from 15yards out.
Emily and Maisie entered matters seamlessly, both holding their own
against strong opponents.
A much more even 2nd half made for a very watchable game, Phoenix attacked with pace and forced Millie into a couple of excellent saves. She was matched by her opposing GK who saved well from Meg and Sophie to keep the score at 2-0.
The goals were the cherry on top but it was all about the performance today!
