Juniors Bounce Back!

Juniors 6 Sussex 1

A miserable rainy day for the visit of Sussex Lionesses, the pitch was in good condition however, a zippy surface would make for a quick tempo game. No Brooke, Sadie, Mya, Faye or Carly for this one.

The team were into their stride early and looked dangerous from the whistle, this was rewarded with an opening goal with only 5 mins played, Megan slotting from an Annabel assist (1-0). After a difficult game on their travels a week ago, the team looked to wipe away lasting memories of that performance and impose themselves early on. Megan seemed on top of her game and was unlucky when rattling the post prior to a popular second goal, Abbie swivelling before neatly finishing for her first of the season (2-0). A great start to the match but a Sussex team were showing enough craft on the ball to suggest it would not be one way traffic and they did get back into the match, a defensive slip giving a clear sight of goal which was duly dispatched (2-1). This did nothing to stop the girls from continually asking questions of a stretched defence, Emilie and Bobbi both near to extending the lead. Another good second 20mins saw Meg and Emilie have shots saved, Meg shoot over and Millie produce a smart stop at the feet of a visiting attacker. Lauren was next to see her effort saved prior to the team getting their due rewards, Bobbi finding the bottom corner from Megan’s angled assist (3-1). HT 3-1 The half time talk was one of ‘more of the same’, the team were trying to play through the thirds and looked like they could add to the score line, Emilie, Summer and Megan all going close. A goal against could have been a game changer, the girls had Kacey to thank for not letting that happen with two brilliant saves before Juniors’ went through the gears and took the game away from the visitors. Bobbi set up Lauren, her shot looping over the goalkeeper from a deflection for her first of the season (4-1) and a hat-trick of assists from Bobbi, her third from a corner which Megan finished well, guiding a header past the GK and bouncing into the top corner of the goal (5-1). Another popular strike on 72mins, captain Layla pressurising a mistake and finishing low into the bottom corner (6-1). Another Bobbi effort drifted wide and Layla almost scored again but hit the post prior to the final whistle. FT 6-1

Summary: A really good performance against a team that were more than capable. A really difficult pitch for defenders but the girls coped well against lively runners, Lila, Annabel and Layla all imposing themselves and Eva again showing her tough tackling and recovery skills. Summer, Abbie and Emilie still getting used to each others game but linking well, picking correct passes and driving the team forwards. Lauren and Bobbi much more influential on the flanks today, running in behind making defenders run towards their own goal and Megan not only scoring goals but creating for the team. A big game from both Millie and Kacey today, big saves at important times.

Great game all!! ??Megan ??Bobbi ??Layla & Kacey
