Corfe Mullen United Girls 1 vs 4 Watford Ladies

Battling Juniors’ Fall Short.

The team welcomed Watford to Cobham on a sunny morning but with a deceptively strong breeze.

A steady start by the girls, matching their visitors with one or two strong early challenges. The first piece of real quality lead to an opening goal, Emily with the vision and ability to set Carly through on goal and a clever finish clipped over the onrushing goalkeeper (1-0). The girls could not build on the lead and it was the hornets that struck next, a strong individual break with a finish to match (1-1). Another lobbed finish gave Watford a narrow lead at the break (1-2).

HT 1-2

A competitive second half was played out but a 90 second period half way through proved decisive. A clinical finish from a corner kick (1-3) shortly followed by another goal from loss possession on the edge of the goal area (1-4) wrapped up the win for the visitors. Juniors’ battled but low confidence made for rushed decision making in the danger areas and the game drew to a close without any more goals.

Summary: A great start was not built on, letting their opponents into the match. Generally good defensively although Watford took their chances well when they came. A battling team performance just lacking that bit of quality to stay in the match.
