Match Summary

A great game of football today! We started with only 8 players, as the opposition were unable to raise a full squad of 9. Being the fair-minded group we are, we agreed to play 8-a-side to keep things balanced. We started like a house on fire — Jack thundered a strike into the top bag from the edge of the box! ? Assist from James, who specifically asked me to mention both of his assists today! For the next 10–15 minutes however, we looked a little nervous — giving the ball away too cheaply and struggling to find any real rhythm. Bogdan and I made a quadruple change all at once, bringing on Zach, Jawad, Jacob and Kunners. The difference was instant! Within 5 minutes of coming on, Jawad grabbed our second goal, and from that moment we took full control of the game. Before long we were 9–0 up. Wanting to avoid being disrespectful to our opponents, Bogdan and I decided to give our deadly trio — Jacob, Alex and Jawad — a well-earned rest. We shuffled things around: Jack moved to right-back, Chappers went into the centre of the pitch, with James and Eric taking up wide positions on the left and right. At the back, Joe was absolutely excellent at centre-back — mopping up absolutely anything that came near him! ?? In the end it was a confident, professional display. Astley Bridge look like a team playing at a level above where they should realistically be, but our lads took full advantage. In my honest opinion — if this had been 9-a-side and we’d had that extra body in midfield, this could have been a proper cricket score! Playing with 8 meant we dropped from two central midfielders to just one, which did hinder us at times — but with that extra man? We could have run riot.
