Enfield Celtic 2nds travelled to Flomax Park on 25 October 2026 for an 11:30am kick-off in a league away fixture against Athboy Celtic 2nds, ultimately falling to a 2-1 defeat after a hard-fought 90 minutes. Despite taking the lead through Sean Gallagher’s first-half strike, Enfield were unable to hold on as Athboy fought back to secure all three points.

Enfield lined up in a classic 4-3-3 formation, deploying a back four of Dylan Flynn at right back, Paul Burdett and Sam Scully as central defenders, and Brandon Tait on the left. The midfield trio consisted of Sean Gallagher on the right, Adam Carey centrally, and Reece Salmon on the left, tasked with linking defence and attack. Up front, the attacking trio featured Chris Browne on the right wing, Lee Sheehan leading the line as striker, and Braedan Carroll Browne operating on the left. This setup was expected to provide width and creativity from the flanks, with Sheehan spearheading the attack and the midfield supporting both defence and offence. The substitutes named on the bench were Ronan Corcoran, Evan Grehan, Nicky Foster, Ashton Hughes, and Daragh Farrelly.

The match began with Enfield showing intent, and it was Sean Gallagher who broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute. Receiving a short pass from Lee Sheehan, Gallagher expertly finished with his right foot to give Enfield a deserved lead. The visitors maintained this advantage going into half-time, with the scoreline reading 1-0.

The second half saw a more physical encounter, with Dylan Flynn receiving a yellow card in the 59th minute for persistent infringements, signalling a shift in the match’s intensity. Enfield then made a flurry of tactical substitutions shortly after the hour mark: Ronan Corcoran replaced Braedan Carroll Browne at left forward, Evan Grehan came on for central midfielder Adam Carey, and Nicky Foster took over from left midfielder Reece Salmon. These changes aimed to refresh the side’s attacking impetus and midfield control.

However, discipline continued to be an issue for Enfield. Paul Burdett was booked in the 82nd minute, also for persistent infringements, and just a minute later Dylan Flynn was shown a second yellow card, resulting in a red and leaving Enfield with ten men. The numerical disadvantage forced further tactical adjustments, with Ashton Hughes coming on for left back Brandon Tait and Daragh Farrelly replacing right midfielder Sean Gallagher in the 83rd minute.

Despite the reshuffle, Athboy Celtic 2nds capitalised on their extra player to overturn the deficit and secure a 2-1 victory. Enfield’s early promise was ultimately undone by the second half’s disciplinary troubles and the opponents’ resilience.

Lee Sheehan was named player of the match for his influential role in attack, including the assist for the opening goal, demonstrating leadership and creativity throughout the game. Nonetheless, Enfield Celtic 2nds will rue missed opportunities and the costly red card as they look to bounce back in their upcoming fixtures.
