Euxton Villa U16 Black welcomed Penwortham St Teresas U16 to the Jim Fowler Ground #1 on 19 April 2026 for an 11:30am kick-off in a league home match. Over the course of 80 minutes plus added time, Euxton Villa produced a commanding performance to secure a 5-1 victory against their visitors.
Euxton Villa lined up in a 4-1-4-1 formation, deploying a solid defensive unit with Adam Tucker in goal. The back four consisted of Alex Howarth at right back, Harley Ashton and Louis Grant as central defenders, and Finlay Mann covering the left flank. Jack Willett took the lone holding midfield role, shielding the defence and linking play. Ahead of him, a quartet of attacking midfielders featured Lucas Harvey on the right, Ethan Bingham and Ollie Bamber centrally, and Roman Taylor on the left, all supporting lone striker William Murray. This setup aimed to balance defensive solidity with attacking creativity, expecting the wide midfielders to provide width and the central midfielders to orchestrate play.
On the bench, Euxton Villa had Archie Finch, Frank Cooper, and Jack Shirley available as substitutes.
The match began with an early attempt from William Murray in the first minute, which went wide, signalling Euxton’s intent to attack from the outset. It was not long before the breakthrough came in the 15th minute when Lucas Harvey capitalised on a short pass from William Murray inside the box to slot home with his right foot, giving Euxton the lead. Unfortunately for Euxton, this moment also saw Roman Taylor forced off injured, with Archie Finch coming on to replace him immediately.
William Murray continued to press and tested the opposition goalkeeper again in the 19th minute, but this time his shot was saved. Euxton’s dominance was clear as they controlled possession and created chances. Their persistence paid off in the 30th minute when Ethan Bingham delivered a long pass to Archie Finch, who cleverly lobbed the ball over the keeper to double the lead.
The first half concluded at the 40-minute mark with Euxton comfortably ahead. At half-time, tactical changes were made as Jack Shirley replaced Alex Howarth at right back and Frank Cooper came on for Louis Grant which dropped Jack Willett into central defence, both substitutions occurring just after the break.
Penwortham St Teresas responded with a moment of individual brilliance in the 50th minute, scoring a solo goal with a right-footed effort that briefly threatened to shift momentum. However, Euxton’s defensive structure remained largely untroubled.
In the 61st minute, Harley Ashton committed a late tackle but avoided conceding a penalty, maintaining the flow of the game. Euxton quickly restored their commanding position when Ollie Bamber scored in the 64th minute following a well-worked team move, assisted by a short pass from William Murray.
William Murray himself got on the scoresheet in the 71st minute, finishing off another team move with a right-footed strike after a long pass from Archie Finch. This goal further cemented Euxton’s control of the match.
Tactical adjustments continued as Louis Grant returned to the field in place of Lucas Harvey in the 75th minute, shoring up the defence once again. Archie Finch then completed his personal brace in the 77th minute, tapping in a close-range finish from a short pass by Ethan Bingham.
Ethan Bingham’s influence throughout the match was pivotal, earning him the player of the match accolade for his creativity and key assists. The referee maintained a good standard of control with a performance rated at 70.
Euxton Villa U16 Black’s 5-1 triumph over Penwortham St Teresas U16 was a comprehensive display of attacking prowess and tactical discipline, ensuring three valuable points at home.
