Glebe U10 Jaguars kicked off their season with a cracking 4–1 away win over AFC Shortlands Typhoons, a game full of strong energy, effort and moments of real quality across the pitch.
From the first whistle, the Jaguars looked sharp. Jax started in goal and set the tone early, producing confident handling, brave stops and calm distribution that helped settle the team. In front of him, the defensive combo of Micky and Brown were superb with great positioning, strong challenges and making sure every angle was covered so that Shortlands had no easy route through.
Glebe’s early pressure paid off when Wins opened the scoring, finishing well after Ben crossed in with a clever assist. Shortlands responded with an equaliser shortly after, but the Jaguars stayed composed, regrouped and continued to push forward with purpose with some good link up plays in midfield.
The Jaguars grew stronger as the game settled, with every boy playing his part. The midfield worked tirelessly to shut down attacks and drive the team forward, the defence stayed disciplined and brave in every challenge, and the forwards kept pressing and creating chances. It was a full squad effort and a great example of how far the boys have come.
The pressure paid off when Freddie B restored the lead, finishing confidently after Wins set him up again with a tidy through ball. It was a deserved reward for the way the boys were moving the ball and dominating the midfield battles.
The second half saw Glebe tighten their grip on the match. Alexander kept threatening, some good link up passing from G Martin forced another good chance, and the defence continued to stand firm with Mansell and Lewis blocking shots, clearing danger and keeping the team on the front foot. Harry stepped into goal too and showed bravery, shutting down a Shortlands attacker in his tracks.
Later in the match Ben spotted the keeper off his line and produced an outrageous lob from the side kick on to produce a stunning finish that had everyone on the touchline applauding, a goal worthy of any season opener.
With momentum fully in their favour, Glebe added a fourth when Wins tucked away another, this time after Micky played him in with a perfectly timed through ball from the back.
The boys should all be proud of their efforts today, with great teamwork and niffy footwork to comfortably take a strong lead over AFC.
Micky’s performance today was a standout. He worked tirelessly in defence and nothing got past him. To cap it off he assisted Wins in getting the final goal and earned himself MOTM.
A great start from the boys and we look forward to seeing what else they can produce as the season gets underway.
