Glebe U9 Jaguars delivered one of their strongest and most complete performances of the season in a spirited 7-a-side fixture against Orpington Town FC. The match kicked off at 11:30am in front of an enthusiastic crowd, and from the first whistle the Jaguars showcased teamwork, determination, and some of their most connected football to date.
Lining up in their familiar 2-3-1 formation, the team settled quickly. The defensive pairing of Micky and Brown were excellent throughout the game, reading danger early, stepping in with confidence, and keeping the back line organised. Chen also put in a tremendous shift, working tirelessly off the ball, pressing intelligently, and helping the team maintain their shape during key moments. Both goalkeepers deserve recognition for a series of important saves that kept the score lines tighter against the determined attacking team.
The opening goal came early, with Alex bursting through the defence with a level of strength and speed we haven’t seen from him before, finishing with real authority to set the tone for the match.
In midfield, Winston produced a solid display, combining composure with drive on the wing and capping his performance with a well-taken goal. Alongside him, Lewis battled for every ball, pressing relentlessly and helping Glebe maintain control in the centre of the pitch.
Even from defence Mansell was a constant threat, scoring twice and coming agonisingly close to a well-deserved hat-trick. Martin also made his mark, reacting quickest during a goalmouth scramble to force the ball over the line and extend Glebe’s advantage.
The match also saw a couple of cheeky moments too from Harry and Ben, who both pulled off instinctive headers (despite headers being strictly not allowed at this age group). Their reactions brought plenty of smiles from the touchline and showed just how switched-on the boys were throughout.
As the game progressed, the Jaguars’ passing became increasingly fluid, with the boys linking up superbly and supporting each other in every phase of play. Their teamwork and determination were rewarded with a total of seven goals. Orpington Town responded with three of their own, showing resilience and quality, but Glebe’s collective effort ensured control from start to finish.
A standout moment came from Ben, who delivered a stunning free-kick. Struck with confidence, the ball dipped beautifully at the last moment, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance and drawing loud cheers from the touchline.
Alexander Walsh was named Player of the Match for his leadership, composure, and the way he drove the team forward throughout the game.
With a 7–3 victory, outstanding teamwork, and some of the boys’ best football on display, every player should be incredibly proud of their efforts. The Jaguars can walk into the Cup finals with their heads held high, knowing they have earned their place through hard work and a performance full of quality.
