George Friend was the hero and the villain this evening as he managed to bag a 12 yard death strike, as well as seeing one saved by the Commercial Crab Number 1 with a superb hand denial to complete a mixed bag of a game for our number 10.

It was the away side who took an early lead as pace lord Macauley Youngson, who is good at running - outstripped the Giants back line and poked in past today's glove lord Stefan Campbell who had managed to sneak out to play with his friends and keep net.

A troubling opening period occurred for the much changed Giants but Friend bamboozled his way through a couple of Crabs on 27 before one baddy committed a felony deep in the 18 yard danger zone.

Deathstrike. Friend stepped up and the glove dweller didn't move. Huge cheering occurred and a couple of people clapped.

Friend went close with a stinging drive from a touched free kick and the same guy fired just over from 25 as the Giants began to get a foot hold in to the game.

1st Period - 1 v 1

A couple of changes here and there by today's actual side line coach Plumpton, (that's right, he actually dropped himself) saw a much improved Purple display in the second half and Friend found himself spotting up his second deathstrike of the game after ANOTHER felony, this time on Prentice.

Unfortunately our hero is a friendly guy, hence his name, and he showed a great display of sportsmanship to kick it to the keeper and become the Giants 8 deathstrike misser of the season, as he just didn't see it as being fair scoring two deathstrikes in one game and making him sad.

Dog Whitehead had taken the game by the scruff of the neck and was putting in arguably his best Giants performance in central midfield zone, and it was our young hero who would draw the next stain of blood on the away sides sheets.

Whitehead dodged some bigger boys in the 18 yard danger zone and found the ball falling to his right peg, just shy of his size 7 shoe kick range. He was stretching, seemingly just out of his reach…..

Never fear though as our Dog had other ideas as he did a real extra big stretch and toe bunged the pigskin in to the far corner of the SGI to create huge scenes of jubilation to the throng of support at the Storm Roofing Arena sub shack!

There was still time for Tom Hudson to fire over a couple of dangerous corners and crosses and once cartoon baddy star of Disneys Despicable Me Tom Duckworth finished the game with a well taken close range thunder-banger of a strike after a couple of kick ups with his extra-long limbs.

Oh and Brad Parkin also missed an easy chance late doors when well placed. Sadly our young Giant just can’t handle the pressure with the goal at his mercy and will definitely now not play up front in the final….

Up next for the Giants is Pickering and the League Trophy Final. Tune in tomorrow for the pre match build up!
