Greenock HSFP Black 3 vs 1 Barrhead

1st v 2nd in the league last night and, with the High School already crowned champions, this one was all about pride and bragging rights between two good sides.

Barrhead came flying out the traps and looked right up for it. It was the visitors who took the lead after 10 minutes when their winger burst down the right and cut it back for a simple finish after a defensive mixup. 0-1.

The High School response was brilliant though and we were level almost immediately. Ben’s shot looked to be drifting wide, but the defender’s clearance only fell as far as Kieran on the edge of the box and he fired one in off the post. Great finish. 1-1.

From there the High School really started to take control, with Lucas driving us forward at every opportunity and looking a constant threat down the right-hand side.

We took the lead around the 25-minute mark when Ben won a tackle and Aaron laid it off first time to Lucas. He drove in on goal, showed brilliant feet to turn the defender twice, then smashed it into the back of the net. Cracking goal. 2-1.

The third came a few minutes later. Zack W clipped a dangerous diagonal ball over the top for Lucas, who was through on goal again, but instead of going himself he unselfishly squared it across for Aaron to tap home. 3-1.

The rest of the half was more of the same, with the High School creating the better chances but maybe just lacking a little composure at times.

The High School started the second half on the front foot as well, with Mure going close a couple of times, while Dylan and Kaiden also had decent efforts.

Barrhead did come back into it in the final 20 minutes and put us under a bit of pressure. They had a dangerous free kick just over the bar before a goalmouth scramble was eventually gathered by Shammy.

That’s the way it finished. A frustrating second half at times, quite scrappy in spells and the low sun definitely not helping either side. Defensively though, we were excellent again and limited Barrhead to very few clear-cut chances.

Cracking performance on the wing. Terrorised the Barrhead full-back all night, took his goal brilliantly and then unselfishly laid one on a plate for Aaron. Top display.

Shout out to Ben as well. The Barrhead winger must hate playing against him because he never gives him an inch. And to be fair, their winger is a very good wee player as well.
