Divisional Cup Final Winners ??

A fantastic win against a decent Blantyre side today.

The High School started really well, knocking the ball about with confidence, and it only took 4 minutes to get ourselves in front. Mure’s header was missed by the Blantyre defence, sending Zack W through on goal, and he finished brilliantly with a low shot across the keeper. 1-0.

Blantyre responded quickly and were level two minutes later, with a great delivery from the right and their striker getting the faintest touch to nick it past Shammy. 1-1.

Dylan had the ball in the net shortly after, but the flag went up for offside. It looked very tight from where we were, and he was unlucky.

Zack W then got his second in similar fashion. Ashton played a cracking ball over the top, Zack raced through again and made no mistake with the finish. 2-1.

Zak F, Mure and Ashton all had efforts from distance, while Blantyre had a good chance to equalise, but Shammy produced a great save to push it over the bar. Big moment in the game.

Zack W heavily involved in a lot of our best play down the left hand side in the first half. He linked up really well with Zak F and Mure, and a neat one-two with Mure nearly brought another goal, but the keeper saved well.

HT 2-1

We knew the next goal was going to be massive, and Blantyre started the second half sharply. A ball over the top released their striker one v one, but Jay did brilliantly to get back and make a last-ditch block.

The High School then created chances of their own, with Kieran going close and Lucas having two efforts well saved by the keeper.

Eventually, we got that all-important third goal, and it was again through nice play. Zack W was involved again, playing a cracking wee ball in behind for Lucas, who rounded the keeper and passed it into the empty net. 3-1.

We didn’t have the two-goal cushion for long though. Blantyre broke quickly from a high school corner, their player carrying it from inside his own half before firing a brilliant finish into the top corner. Game on. 3-2.

Blantyre had a bit of momentum after that and put us under a bit of pressure but the High School defence worked really hard to keep them out. Shammy also made a good save from a free kick hit low under the wall.

Then came the big moment. Lyle played a dangerous ball in behind to Aaron, who finished well to make it 4-2 with around 10 minutes to go.

That goal definitely knocked the wind out of Blantyre’s sails, and from there the boys took full control.

The fifth was a brilliant team goal, with a great passing move from the back. Ashton found Kieran, and what a finish it was, a wee dink over the keeper. Superb. 5-2.

Another nice move made it six, Kieran releasing Lucas down the left, who cut inside and squared it for Aaron to finish into the roof of the net. 6-2.

Kieran then rounded off the scoring with a trademark free kick from around 20 yards. He is absolutely deadly from that sort of range. 7-2.

The scoreline probably flatters us a little, as it was a really tight game for long spells, and the three late goals make it look more comfortable than it was.

But take nothing away from the boys. They were absolutely tremendous today. They battled for every ball, defended when they had to, and showed real quality and composure when the chances came.

A brilliant performance, a fully deserved win, and a wee double in the bag for all their efforts this season.
