The big games are coming thick and fast just now and, after Tuesday night’s brilliant win against Barrhead, the team sitting 2nd, we were back at it today against Spartinios City, who came into the game sitting 3rd.
We got off to an absolute flyer, taking the lead inside the first 10 seconds. Kieran and Dylan pressed together, forced the mistake, and Kieran drove into the box before finishing brilliantly past the keeper. 1-0.
Spartinios took centre, and before you could blink it was two. Ben won the header, Kaiden brought it down and played a one-two with Sam, sending Kaiden through on goal. He still had plenty to do, but produced a brilliant finish over the keeper to make it 2-0 with only a minute on the clock.
Unreal start.
Spartinios grew into the game after that and it became a really well-contested match, but similar to Tuesday night, our back four were rock solid and limited them to very few clear-cut chances. Their best chance of the first half came when their striker went through 1v1, but Shammy pulled off a great save to keep our two-goal cushion.
We won a penalty after 25 minutes when Zack got across his man and was bundled over. Ashton stepped up and struck it well, but it was at a good height for the keeper, who made a great save.
We also had the ball in the net for a third time, with Kaiden finishing over the keeper again, but a very tight offside call kept it at 2-0 going into half-time.
The second half started as a proper battle, but we felt we were edging it and winning a lot of second balls in the middle of the park. Ashton and Sam did so much of the dirty work, breaking up play and getting us moving forward.
On 55 minutes, Kaiden showed great strength to hold off the full back before being brought down in a dangerous area. Bob took the free kick and floated a lovely ball into the box, finding Kieran unmarked, who took a great touch and volleyed it into the bottom corner. What a finish. 3-0.
From that point, the High School really started to take control.
We won a second penalty on the hour mark when Kaiden was brought down in the box. Lyle stepped up this time, but the keeper made another good save.
The fourth came from a counter attack. Shammy played a great ball into Kieran, who sent Mure through. Mure got there just before the oncoming keeper, knocking it under him and into the net. Well-worked goal. 4-0.
It was five not long after. Ethan’s shot was blocked and fell into Aaron’s path. The defender managed to get a touch on it first, but Mure reacted quickest and slotted it into the bottom corner. 5-0.
What a performance again today. Two brilliant results this week against strong opponents, and the boys have come out well on top in both. The full team put in a great shift. The defence were in fine form again and battled for every ball. The midfield engine was tireless and never gave them a second. The forwards were relentless from start to finish. Outstanding from every single one of them.

Coaches’ MotM:
Lots of candidates again today, but we all felt Kieran was the standout. He got us off to a flyer with the early goal, added another cracker in the second half, and assisted Mure’s first. Another superb performance ??
