What a game in the Divisional Plate semi final last night!
The High School started brightly and created a few early chances. Kaiden was doing well down the right-hand side causing problems early on, delivering a great cross to Mure whose header went inches past the post from a few yards out.
We thought Ashton had given us the lead around 10 minutes in after a good move involving Mure and Kaiden, but the referee called for offside. We felt it was tight at the time, but having watched it back he was just off. Good call by the ref.
Spartinios then had a wee spell where they created a few half chances of their own, but none of them caused Shammy any real problems.
Dylan then had the best chance of the half. Kaiden again doing brilliantly to create the opening, but Dylan’s shot goes inches past the far post. Really unlucky.
At this point both defences were nullifying each other and limiting chances to shots from distance.
HT 0-0
The second half starts and Mure wins a free kick in a dangerous area. Ashton steps up and fires one into the top bins from 25 yards, in off the post giving the keeper absolutely no chance. Great strike. 0-1
Spartinios started to push hard for the equaliser and applied a lot of pressure to the High School defence, but the boys worked tirelessly to keep them out. Shammy showing safe hands throughout and making a great tip over the bar from a shot at the edge of the box.
Spartinios were really on top at this stage and had a big chance that hit the inside of the post. We struggled a bit to get up the pitch and keep hold of the ball, with the defence having to dig really deep to protect the lead.
With five minutes to go, the High School had a great chance on the break. Mure did brilliantly to get to the byline and fire a cross into the box, with Ethan inches away from a tap in but just unable to get the final touch.
Spartinios then had one final chance in stoppage time, their striker finding himself through with only the keeper to beat, but thankfully blazing over the bar.
Final score 0-1. A brilliant result for GHS against a very good side, especially considering the amount of pressure we were under for large spells of the second half.

Ashton ??
Coaches MotM: These are getting tougher every week, but we couldn’t split Jay and Bob. Thought they were absolutely outstanding all night and, with the nature of the game, we felt it was right to give it to the defenders ??
A wee shout out as well to Ashton, who had a brilliant game and scored a cracking free kick to win it. He ran the boys very close for it.
