A really good win today back in league action against West End, with 2nd place still up for grabs.

Down to only 11 players and with no GK available, it was always going to be a difficult one. Massive thanks to Shaunie for volunteering to go in goal for the first half, and Frankie for doing the same in the second.

Despite starting well and having a lot of the early play, we got caught cold after 5 minutes when their striker bullied her way through and slotted home. The girls responded really well though and Violet pulled us level after 10 minutes, finishing after a superb through ball from Erin.

We were unlucky to go behind again after a corner caused some confusion in the box and their striker was able to pass the ball into the net. We then had several chances ourselves before Eden finished well following some good work by Violet.

We went into the break at 2–2, but in truth we could and probably should have been 4–2 up.

We spoke at half time about moving the ball quicker and trying to create overloads, knowing going downhill would suit us and also take some of the sting out of their long ball. Within a minute of the restart Gracie put us ahead, with Violet getting her second assist of the game.

After that we really started to take over. We peppered their goal and forced their keeper into 2 or 3 really good saves, but the next goal felt inevitable.

Then came a mad 9 minute spell where we scored 5. Gracie got her second from an Eden assist, Shaunie scored with her first touch back outfield with a cross come shot, before adding another from a Gracie assist. Eden then got her second of the day before Isla popped up to make it 8, following another brilliant assist from Erin.

After that we eased off a little, West End packed the defence and with the win secured the game fizzled out.

A really strong performance in the end, especially given the circumstances. No subs, no recognised keeper, going behind twice and still coming away with an 8–2 win says a lot about the girls.

?? Coaches Player – Erin

Non-stop running, two assists and a fantastic all round performance. She caused problems all game and worked so hard for the team… although she did lose an argument with a squirrel!

?? Parents Player – Erin

Also goes to Erin, which backs up what a great performance she had.

?? Players Player – Gracie

Two goals and three assists says it all really. She also showed a fantastic work rate today, helping the team both defensively and offensively. The little bit of skill late on to go past their defender was a real treat.

A brilliant result and another big step towards finishing 2nd. Well done girls.
