A good result today away at West End, coming away with a 4–2 win which means finishing 2nd in the league is still in our own hands going into the final game of the season.

It was always going to be a difficult one to get the girls fully up for after beating the same team 8–2 only a week ago, and if I’m honest it wasn’t a vintage performance. A fair few looked mentally and physically tired, which is understandable after a long season and even more so with a few carrying knocks or illness. It was also incredibly hot, and after Mia’s unfortunate injury we were left with no subs.

West End clearly had a game plan, packing the defence and midfield to cut off time and space, while looking to hit it long to their powerful and quick striker whenever they could.

We were always in control of the game, but we were guilty of some poor decision making in the final third, especially as the game went on. Lexi got us in front with a cracking finish from outside the box, before Shaunie tapped in after Mia’s brilliant volley to make it 2–0.

We then got caught by the long ball which allowed them to pull one back and we went in 2–1 at half time.

Second half we were even more dominant and Shaunie scored again following some great work by Violet down the right. After that it felt like the game became a series of corners for us, and despite some great deliveries, we just couldn’t convert them. Credit to the West End keeper as well who made some really good saves.

West End took advantage of our tiredness late on and pulled one back with a couple of minutes to go, before Gracie went on a mazy run and finished brilliantly with the last kick of the game to seal the win.

Not our best performance, but the girls found a way to win, which is all that matters at this stage of the season.

Brilliant on the right. Never stopped running, completely dominated their LB and caused problems all game.

?? Parents Player – Violet

Also went to Violet, which says everything about how good she was today. A constant threat and worked so hard for the team.

?? Players Player – Gracie

Like Violet, she was excellent on the flank and caused West End all kinds of problems. Capped it off with a brilliant goal right at the end after a great run.
