Hayden Panthers U15 travelled to King George Playing Fields on 19 April 2026 to face Foots Cray Lions in a keenly contested cup away match, kicking off promptly at 10:00am. The encounter ended in a 2-1 victory for the Lions after 80 minutes plus added time, leaving the Panthers rueing missed opportunities.
The Panthers lined up in a 4-1-4-1 formation, designed to provide defensive solidity with a single holding midfielder shielding the back four, while offering width and creativity through four attacking midfielders supporting a lone striker. Louie Ford took his place between the sticks as goalkeeper, tasked with organising the defence and keeping a clean sheet. The defensive line comprised Sid Hale at right back, Reiley Webb and Alfie Blazeby as central defenders, and Tyler Cracknell on the left, all expected to maintain a disciplined backline and repel opposition attacks.
In midfield, Josh Jolly operated as the holding central midfielder, responsible for breaking up play and distributing the ball efficiently. Ahead of him, the attacking midfield quartet featured Alfie Severn’s on the right, Ollie Challis and Archie Bristo centrally, and Aston Hawgood on the left, all charged with creating chances and linking play to the striker, Darcey Illing, who led the line alone, looking to convert opportunities into goals.
No substitutes were named for the Panthers on this occasion.
The match began with early intensity, and it was the Panthers who drew first blood, scoring a goal in the 7th minute. This early breakthrough would have raised hopes of a strong performance on the road. However, the Lions responded with resilience and managed to equalise in the 31st minute, restoring parity well before the break.
As the first half progressed, both sides sought to assert control, but neither could find the net again before the half-time whistle blew at the 40th minute mark, leaving the score level at 1-1.
The second half saw a tight battle for supremacy, with the Panthers striving to regain the lead through their attacking midfielders and lone striker, but the Lions’ defence held firm. Ultimately, the visitors conceded a decisive goal in the 82nd minute to the Foots Cray Lions, who then managed to see out the remainder of the match to secure a 2-1 victory.
Despite the defeat, the Panthers showed glimpses of promise, particularly in their early goal and structured formation, but were unable to maintain their advantage against a determined Lions side on their home turf.
