Hibs 16 YPL faced St Mirren YPL in a friendly away fixture at Renfrew Sports Centre on 22 May 2026, kicking off at 7:20pm. The match ended in a 2-2 stalemate after 80 minutes plus added time, providing an entertaining contest between the two sides.
Hibs lined up in a traditional 4-4-2 formation, with Millie guarding the goal. The defensive line featured Aimee at right back, Katie and Lucy as central defenders, and Arianne on the left flank. The midfield four consisted of Jess on the right wing, Emily and Cora centrally, and Lily on the left. Up front, Naomi and Amy led the attack as the right and left forwards respectively. This setup was designed to offer defensive solidity through the back four while maintaining width and creativity in midfield, with the forwards expected to capitalise on chances created from wide areas and central play. The substitutes named were Emma, Keeva, and Bea.
The match began with Millie making a crucial full-stretch save in the 15th minute, denying St Mirren an early breakthrough and setting the tone for a competitive encounter. However, the visitors took the lead seven minutes later when St Mirren found the net in the 22nd minute, putting Hibs on the back foot.
Hibs responded with a tactical substitution in the 31st minute, bringing on Emma for Cora in midfield. Emma immediately made an impact, executing a vital tackle just a minute later to prevent a clear chance for St Mirren. The momentum shifted as Lily delivered a precise long pass to Amy, who finished clinically with her right foot in the 33rd minute to equalise, a well-worked team move that lifted the Hibs spirits.
As the first half drew to a close, Hibs made two further changes at the 40-minute mark. Keeva replaced Jess in a tactical switch on the right wing, while Cora returned to the field, coming on for the injured Emily in central midfield. The half ended with the scores level at 1-1.
St Mirren regained the lead early in the second half, scoring a spectacular goal from outside the area in the 61st minute with a right-footed strike that beat the Hibs defence and goalkeeper Millie.
Shortly after, Hibs were forced into another substitution due to injury, with Lucy coming on to replace Amy in the 64th minute. The visitors responded swiftly as Emma headed home a free-kick delivery from Lily in the 65th minute, restoring parity with a well-timed and powerful header.
In the 72nd minute, Bea was introduced in goal for Millie, who had been solid throughout the match. Bea quickly proved her worth, producing a remarkable point-blank reaction save in the 78th minute to keep Hibs in the contest.
The match concluded with the scoreline locked at 2-2, a fair reflection of the spirited performances from both sides. Arianne’s consistent defensive displays on the left flank earned her the player of the match accolade, highlighting her importance in maintaining the team’s shape and resilience throughout the fixture.
