SBYL under 12 first division

Saturday 27th April 2013 – Moat Park 9.00am ko - Opposition – Dungoyne

We travelled to Moat Park in Dundonald for the 2nd time this season to play Dungoyne. We just held on to beat them 3-2 back in January but for today’s match we didn’t have the services of Niall and Tom Wilson so we expected a tough match. Once we received our sternest pre-match talking-to of the season from the referee we were allowed to go on to the pitch to continue our warm-up. And so we kicked off playing up the slope. We got a brilliant start when Euan scored after a few minutes from close range, being the first to react - after a corner -  in the 6 yard box to stab it into the net. The good start continued when only 5 mins later Thomas scored a contender for goal of the season when he brilliantly lobbed the keeper from the edge of the box to give us a 2-0 lead. By now we were rampant going forward. Jamie was played in midfield today and he was a real bundle of energy from start to finish. The Dungoyne midfield just couldn’t cope with his superb workrate. He was superbly complemented by Geo who as always was neat and tidy on the ball. On the right-wing Jack was putting in a fine performance, getting past his opponent and playing some great early balls up to Euan and Tom Mc in the forward line. Defensively we were not really troubled. The trusted centre-back partnership of Paddy and Cameron was restored today and they both were really solid. Adam and Josh at full back were doing well to limit attacks down the wings and playing good passes into midfield to launch attacks. Goalie Josh spent most of the half spectating. The 3rd goal arrived from a free kick. Euan took on a couple of Dungoyne defenders on the right before being fouled. Geo’s superb free-kick was palmed out but straight to Paddy, who headed over the keeper to score.

Half-time : Dungoyne 0, Holywood 3.

At half time three substitutions were made. Dozie came on for Tom Mc, Tongai replaced Josh B at left-back and Ben went on at right-back with Euan coming off and Adam going up front. Dungoyne had a couple of half chances in the second half as they looked for a way back into the game. However the lads really defended well as a team today. Once again it has to be mentioned that Jamie was having a tremendous game. He sacrificed the attacking part of his game today to work his socks off in midfield. Because of the ground that he covered, Dungoyne’s midfield were not able to assert any authority on the game. A couple more changes were made. Geo made way for Euan with Thomas going into the centre, Jack came off for Tom Mc and Cameron came off for Josh B. The fourth and final goal took a wee while coming but it came from Thomas who struck a good shot around the penalty spot which the keeper could not do anything about. Other than that, Dozie had some wonderful chances to score. He was put through a couple of times but their keeper made good saves. In summary it was an excellent team performance and some good individual shows from the likes of Cameron, Jack, Geo, Thomas and Euan to name but a few. But star of the show today was Jamie. What a performance, and to keep going to the very last minute was a credit to him.

Final score  : Dungoyne 0 , Holywood 4. Goal scorers – Euan , Paddy, Thomas(2).

MOTM -  Jamie. A selfless performance today for the team.

Squad – Josh Johnston, Josh Burford, Tom Mc Illhatton, Paddy Crookshanks, George Moore, Cameron Alexander,  Ben Murray,  Thomas Wilson, Jamie Owens, Euan Morrow, Adam Collins, Dozie Ajeh.
