Home friendly match played on 13 July 2019.
Kicked off at 5:00 PM

First time we were playing at Seng Kang Secondary and I must say that this pitch is really great. The latest artificial pitch technology comparable to OTH. 18 of us got to enjoy this as we try to build upon last week’s victory. Bolton Veterans were this week’s opponents and if anyone remembers the last meeting, we struggled to a draw at Naval Base Secondary. We were handed good news before the game though as their manager told our manager that today’s team was weaker. Let’s find out.

We were on the front foot from the off. Pressing them high up the pitch but I cannot recall much chances that we had. 3 key moments in the first half. 1st a penalty, calmly dispatched by Colin after Patrick was manhandled in the box. 2nd, a long ball in the box, led their winger to spin around Joe and placed the ball into the bottom left corner. 3rd and last, a long range drive from over 25 yards skimmed on the surface and whistles past SK into the bottom corner. We were being outplayed as Bolton were passing the ball all over us. Keeping it simple while Incepcion tried to do the opposite. Difficult balls and not putting in the effort to close them down well. Half time ended 2-1 down.

Second half and we kicked off. This time round, things were very different. We kept it simple and simply attacked them. Captain scored the equaliser with a header from a Harold corner. Then Dave gave us the lead after toe poking into the corner from a short Harold pass. Next goal was seriously the goal of the game, in my opinion. Jansen took the ball out of defence and passed it to Andy, who then thread it to Stuart who flicked it to Dave. He then shot it into the top corner. The buildup to this goal was brilliant. The ball never left the ground and simple passing paved the way to the goal. Another corner by Harold found Pat at the far post. He tried to control it but it fell to Colin, who swept it into goal. Durian? Maybe. Next goal was a strong contender for the goal of the game as well. Patrick took the ball off Joe and went down the byeline. He drove into the box and crossed it to Colin who had the simplest task of tapping it in again. Another durian? Benny then scored the final goal when he picked up a rebound outside the box and placed it right into the bottom left corner. Great strike. Despite all these goals from us, Bolton did give us a few scares which the defence and SK, unusually bored this game, kept them out. Patrick should have scored as well in the last minute. Daryl sent a delicious cross and Pat couldn’t connect properly to head it wide. Final whistle came and we won 7-2.

Good comeback from the team in the second half as we thoroughly outplayed them. Colin even mentioned that he thought we were Barcelona. I supposed we were always capable of this. But it took some effort to play it simple and as a team. Great joy to play like this instead of the first half. I don’t remember when was the last time we had such a big win. Credit to Harold, who had 2 assists and Pat with 3. Dave had a stormer as well with his 2 goals. Let’s continue this next week!
