Labyrinth Football Club hosted Maumong Controllers at Dinie Estate Rustenburg on 17 May 2026, with kick-off at 3:30pm in a keenly contested league fixture. The home side emerged victorious with a 2-1 scoreline after 90 minutes of competitive football, much to the delight of the 70 spectators in attendance.
Labyrinth lined up in a 3-4-3 formation, deploying three defenders at the back, four midfielders across the middle, and a front three tasked with breaking down the opposition’s defence. Ratoolo Pogisho guarded the goal, supported by Ofentse Monau on the right, Rebaone Molekwa centrally, and Katlego Mapheele on the left in defence. The midfield quartet featured Karabo Moyo on the right flank, Aobakoe Letupu and Monchusi Motlhatswi occupying central roles, and Pule Phosisi on the left. Up front, the attacking trio included Prince Moemi leading as striker, flanked by unnamed right and left forwards. The substitutes available were Bruno Mokgosi and Karabo Molekwa.
The match began with Labyrinth asserting control through their midfield, particularly Aobakoe Letupu, whose influence would prove decisive. The first goal arrived in the 32nd minute when Letupu delivered a precise long pass that found Prince Moemi. The striker expertly controlled the ball before firing a right-footed finish into the net, a well-worked team move that put the hosts ahead.
Shortly before half-time, at the 42nd minute, Labyrinth made an early substitution, bringing on Bruno Mokgosi. This change was necessitated by the team starting the match short of players, an unusual circumstance that required adjustment. The first half concluded with Labyrinth holding a slender 1-0 lead.
The second half saw Labyrinth continue to press, with Aobakoe Letupu again at the heart of their attacking play. In the 58th minute, Letupu combined with right midfielder Karabo Moyo, who unleashed a powerful right-footed strike from outside the box to double the home side’s advantage. The goal was a testament to Moyo’s shooting prowess and Letupu’s vision in midfield.
At the 64th minute, another substitution was made as Karabo Molekwa entered the fray, again due to the initial shortage of players. This tactical adjustment helped maintain the team’s shape and energy as the match progressed.
The contest grew more physical as Maumong Controllers sought to claw back into the game. The visitors received a yellow card in the 71st minute for a bad tackle, signalling their increasing frustration. Labyrinth’s Rebaone Molekwa was also cautioned for a similar offence eight minutes later, reflecting the intensity and competitive edge of the encounter.
Maumong Controllers managed to reduce the deficit in the 79th minute through a penalty, calmly converted with a right-footed finish. This goal injected renewed urgency into the visitors’ play, setting up a tense finale.
Despite the pressure, Labyrinth held firm to secure a 2-1 victory. The referee’s performance was impeccable throughout, ensuring the match flowed fairly and smoothly.
Aobakoe Letupu was deservedly named player of the match for his outstanding contribution, orchestrating play from midfield and providing both assists for Labyrinth’s goals. His vision and passing proved pivotal in unlocking the Maumong Controllers’ defence.
Labyrinth Football Club’s disciplined 3-4-3 setup, combined with key individual performances, ultimately earned them a valuable three points on home soil.
