Maidstone United KYL U14 travelled to Old Wilsonians Sports Ground U15/U13 on 8 March 2026 for a 2:00pm kick-off in a league fixture against Old Wilsonians Wilson U14. The 70-minute contest plus added time saw Maidstone secure a hard-fought 2-1 victory on the road.

Maidstone United lined up in a 3-4-1-2 formation, deploying three defenders at the back with Captain Eddie Ambrose on the right, Danny Lowe centrally, and Liam Rich on the left. The midfield quartet featured Zane Clements on the right, Bertie Hayward and Tosan Okomi centrally, and Max Carney on the left, tasked with both defensive duties and supporting attacks. Ahead of them, Bernie Farley operated as the attacking midfielder, linking play between midfield and the two forwards, Zaph Kouassi on the right and Rylee Rodgers on the left. Harvey Rostron guarded the goal. The substitutes available were Tommy Monaghan, Blake Vince, Tank Evans, Harrison Smith, and Sawyer Booth.

From the outset, Maidstone showed intent with Zaph Kouassi’s flick key pass in the opening minute setting the tone. Bertie Hayward quickly demonstrated defensive awareness with an interception at two minutes, while Max Carney’s slide rule pass shortly after created early attacking opportunities. Max Carney’s long pass at eight minutes created a chance that was expertly converted by Bernie Farley at nine minutes with a direct free-kick from outside the box, struck with his right foot to give Maidstone an early lead. The goalkeeper, Rostron, was alert to clear danger at 11 minutes, and Max Carney again headed clear shortly after. Liam Rich contributed with a clearance at 12 minutes, while Bertie Hayward and Max Carney combined to head away threats.

Rostron’s safe catch of a cross at 13 minutes kept Maidstone in control. Max Carney’s flick pass at 14 minutes and Eddie Ambrose’s long pass at 15 minutes kept the team on the front foot, although Kouassi’s shot went wide. Defensive interceptions from Carney and Ambrose at 16 minutes, combined with Rostron’s clearance, ensured Maidstone remained solid at the back. Ambrose’s header at 18 minutes and Lowe’s clearance at 19 minutes continued to repel Old Wilsonians’ advances.

Liam Rich was a constant aerial presence, winning headers at 20 and 25 minutes, while Danny Lowe’s tackle at 21 minutes and multiple clearances from Ambrose and Lowe between 22 and 23 minutes frustrated the opposition. Bernie Farley’s tackle at 24 minutes and Max Carney’s slide rule pass created further attacking momentum. Rich’s long passes at 26 and 28 minutes helped maintain Maidstone’s attacking rhythm.

Rylee Rodgers came close to scoring at 29 minutes, hitting the post and then having a shot saved, with Bernie Farley providing key passes to support the attack. Defensive efforts from Bernie Farley and Bertie Hayward in the early 30s minutes kept Maidstone’s shape intact. Eddie Ambrose’s long pass at 32 minutes and Max Carney’s slide rule pass at 33 minutes created further chances, culminating in a penalty awarded to Maidstone.

Zaph Kouassi confidently converted the penalty at 34 minutes with his right foot, doubling Maidstone’s lead just before half-time. The first half ended with Maidstone firmly in control at 2-0.

The second half saw a flurry of substitutions at 36 minutes as Tommy Monaghan, Blake Vince, Sawyer Booth, Harrison Smith, and Tank Evans replaced Max Carney, Zane Clements, Liam Rich, Bernie Farley, and Bertie Hayward respectively. Blake Vince immediately made an impact with a clearance, while Kouassi continued to create chances with a slide rule pass. Tank Evans and Tommy Monaghan contributed defensively with tackles and clearances.

Sawyer Booth’s long pass at 39 minutes and defensive headers from Booth and Evans helped maintain Maidstone’s defensive resilience. Ambrose and Lowe continued to clear threats, with Monaghan also making crucial clearances in the early stages of the second half. Tosan Okomi and Harrison Smith provided key passes to keep Maidstone’s attacking threat alive.

Tommy Monaghan’s attempt at 48 minutes was saved, but the team’s defensive discipline remained strong with tackles from Monaghan and Okomi. Tank Evans and Blake Vince cleared danger at 51 and 55 minutes respectively. At 55 minutes, Zane Clements returned to the field, replacing Rylee Rodgers, who had been active upfront.

Defensive headers from Ambrose and Lowe at 56 minutes and clearances from Danny Lowe and Zane Clements ensured Maidstone kept their lead. Sawyer Booth blocked an attempt at 58 minutes, while Ambrose continued to clear danger. Liam Rich re-entered the fray at 60 minutes, replacing Okomi, and quickly contributed with interceptions and long passes.

Despite Maidstone’s efforts, Old Wilsonians pulled a goal back at 64 minutes, reducing the deficit to 2-1. Liam Rich remained a key defensive figure, winning headers and tackles to try and stem the tide. Blake Vince’s slide rule pass at 67 minutes helped maintain Maidstone’s attacking threat, but Harrison Smith received a yellow card at 68 minutes for a foul.

In the closing stages, Maidstone’s defence, led by Danny Lowe and Liam Rich, continued to repel Old Wilsonians’ advances with crucial headers and clearances. Harrison Smith and Sawyer Booth also contributed with tackles and clearances to preserve the lead. Rostron remained alert, clearing danger in the final minutes.

Maidstone United KYL U14’s disciplined defensive display, combined with moments of attacking quality, secured a vital 2-1 away victory. Danny Lowe’s commanding presence at the heart of defence earned him the player of the match accolade, reflecting his crucial role in maintaining Maidstone’s clean sheet for the majority of the game and helping see the team through to three valuable points.
