Maidstone United lined up in a 4-1-2-3 formation, deploying Harvey Rostron in goal. The defensive line consisted of Ethan Webb at right back, Liam Rich and Danny Lowe as central defenders, and Max Carney on the left. Tosan Okomi operated as the holding central midfielder, with Captain Eddie Ambrose and Bernie Farley positioned as right and left attacking midfielders respectively. Up front, the trio featured Zane Clements on the right wing, Zaph Kouassi leading the line as striker, and Harrison Smith on the left wing. The substitutes available were Charlie Lyonette, Bertie Hayward, Rylee Rodgers, and Sawyer Booth.

The formation suggested a balanced approach, with a solid back four supported by a defensive midfielder to shield the defence, while the attacking midfielders and forwards were expected to provide width, creativity, and goal threat. The wide forwards, Clements and Smith, were tasked with stretching the opposition defence, while Kouassi was the focal point of attack.

From the outset, Maidstone showed defensive intent, with Zane Clements making an early tackle in the opening minute. Liam Rich was heavily involved in defensive duties, clearing danger and making tackles repeatedly in the early stages. Danny Lowe also contributed with timely clearances and tackles, while Bernie Farley intercepted passes to disrupt the opponents’ rhythm.

Liam Rich’s long pass in the first minute set the tone for Maidstone’s attempts to build from the back. Zaph Kouassi’s slide rule pass in the second minute created an early chance, which he promptly converted from the penalty spot in the third minute with a right-footed finish, giving Maidstone an early lead. Harrison Smith and Liam Rich continued to show defensive commitment with tackles in the opening minutes, while Kouassi’s follow-up attempt was blocked.

Bernie Farley’s shot was saved in the fifth minute, and Kouassi was again involved defensively with a tackle in the sixth. Ethan Webb’s headed clearance and long pass in the eighth minute helped relieve pressure, with Danny Lowe and Tosan Okomi also making crucial tackles and interceptions to maintain Maidstone’s defensive shape.

The first ten minutes saw a flurry of defensive headers and clearances from the Maidstone backline, with Farley and Ambrose contributing to defensive duties. Max Carney’s long passes began to feature prominently, linking defence to attack. Harvey Rostron was alert, catching crosses and making crucial clearances to keep Maidstone in the game.

Between the 12th and 15th minutes, a series of slide rule passes from Harrison Smith, Zane Clements, Eddie Ambrose, Max Carney, and Zaph Kouassi demonstrated Maidstone’s intent to create chances. However, despite these creative efforts, the opponents found an equaliser in the 24th minute, cancelling out Maidstone’s early advantage.

Maidstone’s defensive resilience was tested as Harrison Smith made blocks and tackles to prevent further damage. Interceptions from Tosan Okomi and Harrison Smith helped stem the flow of the opponents’ attacks. Bernie Farley’s slide rule pass in the 27th minute and Ethan Webb’s long pass kept Maidstone moving forward, but the goalkeeper, Rostron, was kept busy with punches and full-stretch saves to deny the opposition.

The opponents struck again in the 31st minute, taking the lead for the first time. Maidstone responded with Max Carney’s slide rule pass and defensive headers from Danny Lowe and Bernie Farley, while Okomi and Rich continued to break up play. Zane Clements continued to contribute with tackles and long passes, while Danny Lowe and Harvey Rostron played key roles in defence and distribution.

Despite Maidstone’s efforts, the opponents extended their lead in the 47th minute. Charlie Lyonette’s long passes and flicks, alongside Liam Rich’s slide rule passes, kept Maidstone probing for a way back. Ethan Webb’s long pass in the 51st minute led to another saved attempt by Lyonette, showing Maidstone’s persistence in attack.

A holding foul by Bertie Hayward in the 52nd minute and a late tackle by Charlie Lyonette in the 60th minute indicated Maidstone’s increasing urgency and physicality as they sought to claw back the deficit.
