Maidstone United lined up in a 4-1-2-3 formation, deploying Harvey Rostron in goal. The defensive line consisted of Ethan Webb at right back, Liam Rich and Danny Lowe as central defenders, and Max Carney on the left. Bertie Hayward operated as the lone holding midfielder, shielding the back four. Ahead of him, Tosan Okomi took up the right attacking midfield role, with Captain Eddie Ambrose on the left. The front three featured Rylee Rodgers on the right wing, Will Stroud leading the line as striker, and Sawyer Booth on the left wing. The substitutes available were Zane Clements and Bernie Farley. Zaph Kouassi, Harrison Smith and Charlie Lyonette were unavailable due to school events but we look forward to their return at the next fixture.

This formation demanded solidity at the back, with the full-backs expected to support wide attacks while maintaining defensive discipline. Hayward’s role was pivotal in breaking up opposition play and distributing the ball forward. Okomi and Ambrose were tasked with linking midfield and attack, providing creativity and width. The front three were expected to stretch the Metrogas defence, with Stroud as the focal point for goal-scoring opportunities.

From the outset, Maidstone showed intent. Within the first minute, Danny Lowe launched a long pass that set the tone for Maidstone’s attacking approach. Simultaneously, Bertie Hayward made an early tackle to disrupt Metrogas’ rhythm. Max Carney’s slide rule pass further demonstrated Maidstone’s ambition to carve openings quickly. Defensively, Ethan Webb was alert, blocking twice in quick succession by the second minute, while goalkeeper Harvey Rostron punched clear a dangerous ball in the third minute.
