Brian Hillson League Cup First Round

 

Referee Paul Worrall took charge of a wonderful cup tie at Mary Dendy Fields between two teams determined to play football. The action began in the opening minute as Mark Carter sent clear by Tom Gaskell  calmly lifted the ball over Dendy keeper Matt Robinson after shrugging off a challenge from Andy Currie to open the scoring but Dendy were level a minute later.

Nomads Jonny Blissett stops Martin Brunker getting to the ball A floated free kick from Martin Brunker  was fumbled by Jack Gaskell  and Gareth Worrall was first to react , poking the ball loose ball over the line. From going behind Dendy then went two goals ahead on the half hour mark. First the visitors defence backed off as Matty Morris charged forward and his shot from the edge of the penalty area proved too hot for Gaskell and Brunker nipped in to give Dendy the lead. Brunker then turned provider launching  another of his trade mark free kicks into the area and  centre half James Curbishley stole in unmarked to volley home from six yards.

Nomads came roaring back , James Bailey made it 3-2 after good work from Nish Joshi ,Alex Hibbert hit the post with a great effort which would have brought them back level, and Matty Martin made a goal line clearance with his chest which left  him realing off the pitch in clear distress..

The second half saw Nomads dominate as Dendy’s players tireless running in the first half  began to take its toll. Marc Toomey lashed home the equaliser from the corner of the penalty area and ten minutes later from the opposite side of the area  Nish Joshi

Nish Joshi flicks the ball on as Matt Robinson tries to collect curled a delightful shot high into the top corner to give Nomads the lead.

Dendy tried manfully to get back in the game  but James Bailey capped off a fine performance with his second and Nomads  fifth with the last kick  of the game.
