We entertained Sportsmans in this cruicial division 1 game.

We got off to a great start, scoring after just 14 secs.  A mix up between the Sportys defence on the left let in Sam Vernalls who stroked a fine shot past the helpless Jed Clarkson in the Sporties goal.

Police continued to dominate the early stages but Sportys gradually came more into the game.

On 30mins a Colin Anderson left wing cross was met at the near post by Edd Craven but Police keeper Adam Pearson spread himself well and blocked Cravens attempt.

Five mins later Police were 2-0 up with the goal of the game.  Vernalls received the ball on the halfway line and put Chris Pattison through on the right he beat his first marker and a second one on the by line before hitting a great cross which Vernalls who had run into the area headed into the top right hand corner of the net to score a great goal from 12 yards.

 Half time 2-0.

Four mins into the second half it was 3-0.  Vernalls received the ball just inside the area faked to shoot with his left before hitting a right foot shot into the top right hand corner of the net. To complete his hat trick.

He could have had a fourth after 57 mins but Andy Ramsbottom cleared off the line.

Four mins later Sportys reduced the arrears when a Scott Mc Nichol left wing corner was headed against the bar by Andy Ramsbottom and dropped into the net.

The goal spurred Sportys on and they had a sustained ten minutes of pressure, however, in the 68th minute Police counter attacked when Gary Shardhas long ball out of defence put Ben Darville through and he lobbed the advancing Clarkson from 25 yards to make it 4-1.  In doing so Ben aggravated an old hamstring injury and was replaced by Sam Bamber-Lister.
