Borehamwood 200 Red 2-1 Northwood Red

Player of the match Declan

The last league game of the season was all going to be tough against a team that seem to have a bit of a hoodoo over us. The last time we met it was by far one of our best performances of the season, but miraculously we lost 3-0. Today was no exception, the boys did start the game slowly and after the best of the chances going our way with Saihaan, Lewis Reid & Frankie all going close in the early exchanges. Borehamwood with their first real attack of the game forced Rayyan into a great double save but the Borehamwood players still reacted more quickly to stab the ball into the goal & take an undeserved lead on 10 minutes. This did as usual spark the boys into action with more chances but always going off target or being saved by the Borehamwood keeper.

The boys came in at half time still trailing by the single goal but were again in control of the game but weren’t quite showing the edge in front of goal. We had a small re-shuffle of the positions moving a few of the players around and we were soon even more in the driving seat. But 5 minutes into the second half a Borehamwood midfielder hit a hopeful strike towards the goal and despite George now in goal for Rayyan getting a hand to the ball it looped into the net. The boys then pushed on again with excellent chances going to Joshua moved up from centre back Lewis Reid, Frankie, Ashley and Ben Bambrough all going close. It then took a great pass from today’s player of the match Declan who had played at the unfamiliar role of right back find Saihaan who put another fantastic chip to Joshua who finished with a great lob of the advancing Borehamwood goal keeper. It was now all one-way traffic and the boys threw everything at Borehamwood who had now resorted to cynical fouling and time wasting to try and stop the onslaught from Northwood.

The referee did finally play out all the added time and unfortunately the boys had not got the equalizing goal that they strongly deserved. Again they were some un-pleasantries from the opposition at the end of the game, I can’t understand why some teams don’t know how to win with dignity, I suppose it is a reflection of the coaches who did seem to not understand the spirit of the game especially at youth level which is a shame as the manager who did come over and try to calm his coaches and team down I have known for a long time and get on with well with.

Overall this has been a very good year for the boys who have come up a division and held their own, they have all developed individually as well as getting better as a team, I am hoping that they have all learnt some valuable lessons playing a higher level of football so that we can push one next season in the 11- a side. I can say that both John & I have enjoyed and appreciated all that the boys have done this year as well as all the help & support we get from the parents, family members and supporters who come along ,so thank you all.

Here to another great season 2016-17
