Old Meadonians IV's Vs Parkfield III's: W 4-0, Morson (2), Mayou, A Sellars

Parkfield 3XI made the long journey down to Riverside Lands on Saturday with a paltry 2 points from 10 matches. This was a match that was a 'must win' if I ever saw one. The 4's have begun to work out how to win matches after an annoyingly long sequence of drawing matches that should have been won. After Saturday it is 4 on the trot, something that needs to carry on for a few weeks yet if we are to start looking at the top end of the table or the cup final.

Saturday began badly with the pitch not helping our attempts to play the ball about. Parkfield were getting the better of the opening exchanges and we were slow out of the blocks. This changed quickly when after 10 minutes the ball was lofted over the top to George, who looked up to find a keeper rushing out at him...he was about 34 yards out and the keeper then stopped on the edge of the box. George duly responded to the keeper's invitation and hit the bouncing ball over his head into the empty net. 1-0

Matt was forced off soon after with an injury and Dave 'fat lip' Ryan entered the fray, looking like a bruiser ready to take out revenge on the oppostion for his unfortunate escapade the night before. He calmly slotted into the defensive midfield role and played with distiction in his usual casual demeanour. We bagan to settle down after the goal with Sam linking up well with George and Charlie proving a handful for his full back. The full backs then combined inadvertently when a cross from Foz found Andy in an attacking position, he hit the bouncing ball with pure technique but his scorching strike bounced just wide of the far post.

Half time came and it was 1-0, comfortable but by no means clear. The second half started with some of the worst football we have played all year with Parkfield gaining some confidence. They skimmed the bar and that served as a wake up call as our midifeld began to take control of the game. We finally settled when Sam found himself in space on the left and attempted to shoot, his shot hit the defender but the rebound fell straight back and this time he was not to be denied his first ever goal for Old Meads. A lovely curled shot around the keeper into the far corner Henry style put us 2-0. A 3rd soon came when Sam was put clean through by Kev and he again found a keeper running out pro evo style (triangle) and he passed it past him into the goal. 3-0.

There was still time for a 4th when Andy was rewarded for his fine performance from right back. 80mins in and winning, he showed huge desire to overlap and got the ball at his feet. He looked up and struck the ball well from 25yards, dipping and with pace the keeper couldn't keep it out...the ball rolling through his legs to cap a horrendous day. 4-0 and in the end hugely comfortable winners.

A good win, hopefully this momentum can be carried through to next week where we will we try to continue our push up the table. MOM went to Andy for a superb all round performance, providing both defensive solidity and an attacking dimension. Also Sam for getting his first goals in a Meads shirt, hopefully there are plenty more to come.

Team: Sierocinski, A Sellars, Paice, J Sellars, Forrest, Hilne, Hough, Wolfe (Ryan), Sichel, Morson, Mayou.
